Should we all switch to elder care?

Featured Replies

With the decreasing birth rates and all these oldies running around I'm considering a job involving gerontology, like nursing or an assisted living executive. I'm told these are safe from AI and that seems more important by the minute.

Imagine being Rihannas nurse someday and giving her the IV drip I'm already excited.

No one will be able to pay for elderly care by the time most jobs are neglected with proper pay because of AI doing the grunt work.

There's also a lot of research, design and development jobs in digital solutions for healthcare, including elderly care and hospital care at home. Its a rising and important field but imo we should also consider looking more than one answer, that is digital technology.

I work as a geriatric nurse and yeah, you can find a job anywhere and the pay is now very good as well. However, it is a difficult and mentally challenging profession.

My grandma is in a nursing home and I would NEVER work attending to the elderly rip not only most of them are rude and stubborn af, the work is super gruesome: crazy hours, super demanding and you have to be super careful about everything, is a kind of responsability I would not want never want to me.

Not to mention is kinda creepy. I went to visit her one afternoon and an old man literally died right in front of me for a few seconds. He was taking a nap and they went to wake him up to give him his medicine and he simply didn't wake. They started shaking him, calling for him, lied him down on the floor (in the middle of the visit room) and only after some CPR he woke up. I watched the whole thing like

It's not for the weak of mind or stomach. Always overworked and underpaid too...

Imagine being Nicki Minaj's geriatric nurse (near future) and being yelled at "WHERE IS THE BURGER? AND THE COKE? NO, NOT THAT ONE" while she hallucinates about a fictional pink city and projects herself into the Chucky doll she brought to the asylum. I would just quit.
