Katy's back catalogue has basically become her most reliable way of getting back into the conversation. A random resurgence of The One That Got Away or Harleys in Hawaii can remind people that Katy Perry used to be a huge pop star, without requiring her to release anything new. But how long can that realistically work? At some point you've already gone through the obvious choices… and then what?

Most of the catalogue after Prism isn't exactly overflowing with songs the GP is desperately waiting to rediscover. There are exceptions, but we're eventually getting into that Witness, Smile and 143 territory, and I'm not sure there's much left there that the GP is actually nostalgic for.

So can nostalgia actually keep Katy's career afloat indefinitely, or is there a point where even the back catalogue runs out of lifelines? How many more times can old Katy keep saving new Katy?

Legendary Lovers is about to debut on the Global 200, TOTGA is still top 10, Last Friday Night is still viral on Tiktok. OF COURSE SHE CAN!

Old Katy is timeless.

Doesn't this logic apply to most legacy acts relying on their old hits? If she can continue to generate enough to demand for her tours to be profitable every few years then why not

Nowadays every artist will have one if not multiple chances at resurgences and virality. Until that changes she'll continue to be a presence in pop conversations and this is the kind life support her career is on right now.

Old Katy might keep New Katy from completely sinking to the bottom of the void, but "save" isn't the word I'd use. All the attention to her (s)old catalogue will only bring nostalgia, it has not at all been translating to interest in her new catalogue.

Unlike her peers, her catalogue aged like a fine wine. She is always be THE Katy Perry, and the new generations know this.

I have said it before and I will say it again - Katy has one of the most beloved discographies existing, so she had no reason to worry even if she never Charts again!

She's the female Michael jaksom for a reason

I mean if her old music is getting more solo days in the Top 10 of Global Spotify this decade and making her neck and neck with some pop girls who have duets carrying that says a lot
