What are your thoughts on data centers?

Featured Replies

With the recent explosion of AI over the last several years, data centers are rocking national politics in a very unexpected way.

What are your thoughts on them, the positives and the negatives, and have any impacted your community directly?

Technology and Ai itself is advancing so much in the chips area that they are gonna be useless in a few years

They are just destroying the environment and towns for no reason

The people behind them are stupid

Too much happening too fast without the say from the general public. Rich idiots are at the helm of everything nowadays. And it's not a right vs left thing because even my governor (Gretchen Whitner, D) is pro-data center grump

We need them to make Elon richer and loser straight men happy.

They're important so ATRL users can use gifs like the AI Michael Jackson one to spam in every thread

Data centers can negatively impact wildlife by causing habitat loss, straining local water resources, and there's also the pollution. There's nothing good about data centers.

In the Netherlands we already see that they use too much electricity. We already have a big problem with net congestion over here, these data centres are not helping.

It should be illegal to build them near residential neighborhoods.

The DCs as we know them now are the floppy disc of AI data storage. Im sure storage will become more and more sophisticated with time, to the point that a single Data centre will be able to store what hundreds of data centres store today, with much fewer resources. They will eventually be small boxes hosted somewhere in space stations or satellites, not directly managed or maintained by humans.
