Listening

After listening to the album, here are some of my thoughts:

First of all, you can really tell the creative process took a long time. There are clear shifts in direction and moments where the artistic vision seems to evolve throughout the project.

The first half of the album — inspired by Prince and early-era Michael Jackson — is where Mýa truly shines. Tracks like Give It To You, Masterpiece, No Pressure, and Just A Little Bit offer something we've never really heard from her before.

On the other hand, the second half of the album, with songs like ASAP, Anytime, and Face To Face, doesn't really bring anything new — either to Mýa's own discography or to today's music landscape.

You honestly hit this on the nail. The second half of the album brings this entire project down. My biggest issue girl did we really need two versions of the same song on the standard? & shame on her for putting face to face & anytime on the album they don't even match the sound. Give it to me makes sense but she should have just added new tracks.

This could have been 10/10 but the double tracks & messy old tracks feels cheap. I'd return to this but stop half way.

Regardless I'm happy she's still releasing. I want a real solo or joint album.

Mya & Keri Hilson would eat a joint tour!

It could be a lot tighter but its a fun and cute project with a few sneaky bops.

Honestly, it's such a shame. You hear those first four tracks and they really raise your expectations. They sound cohesive, polished, and genuinely fresh for Mýa. You can even hear her using her voice in a way we haven't really heard before, with these funky inflections and textures. And then suddenly all of that disappears, and the album falls into a very overdone sound. And, as harsh as it may sound, Mýa doesn't particularly stand out in that lane. Other artists simply do midtempo R&B better.

I completely agree with you that Anytime, Face To Face, ASAP, and all the remixes should never have made the final tracklist.

I almost like this project more for what it could have been than for what it actually is. That said, if she had released those opening tracks as singles with strong visuals and a fully committed Prince-inspired aesthetic, I honestly think the era could have made a much bigger impact.

That's what makes it so frustrating. She completely wasted the momentum and hype she had built after The Boy Is Mine tour, and who knows when we'll get another Mýa album after this.

And speaking of Keri Hilson, at least Mýa gave us four songs that feel genuinely inspired. I'm sorry to say that Keri, on the other hand, delivered an album full of dated leftovers that wouldn't even work as filler tracks. A joint tour would be nice but I feel that Mya would be touring her whole discography while Kery would perform some nostalgia songs.

Don't scare me like that. Destiny's Child will always be my favorite artists, and I genuinely want all three of them to succeed. Honestly, I even think Michelle Williams could have real success with the right music.

As for Kelly Rowland, I'm actually more worried about her working with The-Dream than with Jermaine Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox. Have you heard The-Dream's new single? It's honestly awful. There's nothing special about it at all. In fact, it sounds pretty dated.

On the other hand, I really think Jermaine Dupri and Bryan-Michael Cox could finally bring out Kelly's potential as a great ballad singer — something we've never fully gotten from her before. Just imagine the vocals from When Love Takes Over on a proper ballad. I still remember when she filled in for Beyoncé during her part on Emotion, hit that high note, and absolutely nailed it.

For me, Destiny's Child is Beyoncé, Michelle, and Kelly. That said, I've listened to all of LeToya Luckett's albums.

Her debut is honestly excellent. Seriously, it might even be the strongest solo debut from any Destiny's Child member. They could have gotten so much more out of that album by extending the era with singles like Gangsta Grillz, All Eyez On Me, Tear Da Club Up, U Got What I Need, or What Love Can Do. It reminds me of B'Day in the sense that almost any track could have been released as a single and worked.

The second album was a pretty noticeable drop in quality for me. It feels much more uneven. Songs like Lady Love, She Ain't Got, and Regret still maintain the standard of the previous project, but the rest of the album just doesn't live up to it.

And then there's Back 2 Life, which I just couldn't connect with at all. It's too slow and honestly kind of boring to me. None of the songs really stand out. I zone out and it starts to feel like I'm listening to the same song for 45 minutes straight.

As for Mýa, I actually haven't listened to her entire discography. And the reason is exactly what I mentioned about LeToya's later work. There's a section of Mýa's catalog where she leans almost entirely into slow R&B ballads and midtempos, and I just lose interest.

I don't think Mýa stands out because of her voice. To be honest, I don't even think her tone is particularly beautiful or pleasant. That's why my favorite songs from her are the uptempo tracks like Case of the Ex, Free, or a lot of the material from Liberation. In fact, that might actually be my favorite album of hers.

There are several things about that album that I genuinely don't understand. First of all, why isn't it on streaming services? And second… what actually happened behind the scenes? Looking at the songwriting and production credits, it's obvious the label invested real money into the project. Bryan-Michael Cox, Tricky Stewart, Akon, and Scott Storch were definitely not cheap producers at that time. And yet she only released two singles, both with pretty low-budget-looking videos. I honestly think choosing Lock U Down as a single was a huge mistake.

Totally agree unsure why they rush this era so quickly. I think when "She don't" bomb they decided to move on even though I'm lost on how it fail the song is amazing. It kind of felt like the label didn't have faith in the project or her.

I can see why everyone feels this way even though i still very well enjoyed her second album but i can admit there is a drop of quality. The album was push back countless of times & it's so unfortunate she was dropped after this album. She had so much potential to keep releasing. Back to life was garbage unsure what happened here but till this day can't finish it. I highly doubt we will get another album from her she seems happy in acting.

Because this album isn't on streaming I've only heard it a hand full of times on YouTube. It's really good but i can't say it's my favorite need more listens. Her debut album is lace with ballads unsure why but "Fear of flying" & "Moonring" She comes with the bops.

Her independent albums are also high quality.

One thing i love about Mya is she is very versatile & she's able to release different genres of music yet it still works. I've listen to each album & she is so underrated. She deserves so much more! Hopefully one day she can get liberation on streaming & do her "own tour".
