Because I swear every time I do, I always ended up getting charged twice. The total with the tip and the original without. Something always told me NOT to do them but I got tired of keep waiting

Every time I go out, I usually just pay as I go but this year I started doings tabs and I've ran into the same issue three times in a row earlier this year. Obviously the first time, I tried to dispute the charge and contact the bar but they told me that it would just fall off after a couple of days, and it did. Did a tab the next week at the same bar and it happened again as well as I when I went to another bar a couple months after that. I stopped doing it for a few months or so and ended up doing a tab again last friday during my friend's drag show and again this monday during karaoke. I was charged properly for both and then as soon as I wake up today I get a notification from my bank and I notice that i'm missing about $50 bucks and when I opened my app, I AGAIN got charged twice from the drag show this friday like why tf does this keep happening does anyone else have this issue??

No, that's not really a thing in the UK and whenever I visit the States I find it so weird that the bartender is visibly annoyed every time I ask to pay for each drink

having a tab isn't really a thing in my country but ive noticed a few times when ive asked to split the bill between me and my friends at restaurants , that i check my bank later on and ive actually been charged the full price for everybody i just assume that it fixed itself a few days later but if not and my friends also got charged full price and they conned the lot of us then that's a good scam tbh

Some pubs do it but nicer bars just charge the table. I don't like tabs because you have to give them a bank card.

The first time I did a tab when I went to a club, I forgot they took my card and left it and they charged me an extra 20%

Always use credit cards as transactions are easier to dispute that way.

OT: sometimes but I don't really go out that often anymore and when I do, I just get a couple drinks and call it a night. I mostly drink ginger ale when I'm out and don't feel like drinking alcohol

I only start a tab if I know I'm going to be there for a long while (closer to 2 hours+) and/or if I'm planning on buying rounds. An authorization hold is pretty common and it's likely an issue with how that bar's payment service or your bank handles them. How it should play out is: you get charged initially for whatever the total was and then whenever the bartender reruns the receipts to add the tips, it gets ran through again with the new total and the original gets cancelled out.

Which is why I'm a fan of digital payments where your tip is done at the time of payment, so that it's all at once.

and now i got charged a second time for the karaoke tab too yeah this is getting ridiculous im never doing this again

I don't pay for things

We don't really have them in Canada, at least in Quebec. Either you pay right now or your keep ordering and pay the bill at the end without giving your credit card at the beginning
