What should Cardi B do now?

IS CARDI HAVING A SOPHOMORE SLUMP

This is something I was discussing today. Her trajectory and recent underperformance of her lead single seem to be telling the story of a sophomore slump.

The problem is, most sophomore slumps happen merely a year or two after a debut, giving ample time for an artist to revamp. ..for Cardi her debut was released 7 years ago (over a decade in the pop/music world).

Though, her label have seemingly attempted/failed at jump-starting the excitement of this era a few times by trying different sounds/singles with the expensive WAP recreation attempt Bongos(?), Enough (Miami)(?), and Outside.

As a fan I'd be dissatisfied that Team Cardi (not even Cardi herself) has so far been unable to produce an exciting comeback hit or cohesive image for her after a near decade in the oven for a seemingly sought-after and anticipated album.

They've also seemed to have tacked on WAP and UP to her upcoming album but ignored the singles after. Why?

Additionally the lyrical content, in a very political 2025, might be a bit dated and it seems with the recent performance of her singles, the GP are wanting something different from Ms. Belcalis' writing camp.

Her comeback album is out soon, does she have time to revamp? Is the GP just not as interested anymore? Should the label hold out for a number one pop-leaning single? Some fans believe an arena tour announcement would help generate interest.

This is not flamebait btw

you just can't wait 7 years to release a SOPHOMORE album

  • What should YOU do now...? There's probably so many productive things you could have done in the last hour and you made a seven paragraph thread about an artist you can't stand instead

She should hop out a plane like she said she would if she did these numbers :suburban:

She and her label shouldn't give up. They've been hyping an album for 7 years! They have 7 years of hype built up. I think the next single should be announced as soon as possible...or make it a surprise release like Beyonce did!

And I put (?) next to Bongos and Enough Miami because fans tell me they were promo singles and not meant for any albums or era:lakitu:

EDIT: tho released after WAP and Up, which are included in her sophomore album

I think she will get a viral hit when the album comes out and WAP and Up are two #1s for the era so it's still successful

Maybe her fans really were all overweight and abandoned her after 3XL gate :rip:. She should've kept the comments to herself ddd

Maybe she should gain some weight

i thought the new song was good as i watched the music video first, but then i listened to just the audio on spotify and i kept fighting the urge to turn it off

my eyes said yes but my ears said no thanks

Why didn't she release a sophomore album in 2021? She had Money/ WAP/ UP and she would probable have achieved one or two more hit singles back then.
What stopped her from becoming the most successful female rapper ever?

GP left Cardi along with Covid in the dust.

Its kinda true if you look at the stats. A pre-Covid artist indeed

She was always going to be a one album wonder. Rap girls had their moment, but the era of throwing them onto every song is done. Every song they release is about the same thing, money, *******, their juicy asses or their wet pussys. **** gets old fast.

Well the album is still coming and who knows, maybe something will click with the GP... So she should release the album and tour a bit since she's clearly disconnected with her audience.

But given the recent singles, what I feel is that she's trying too hard to be taken as a "serious rapper" from a general perspective that she's losing what made her stand out amongst her peers. Her songs are lacking solid choruses, there's not crossover appeal anymore - including with the latin audience.

Yes It is

Cardi B should not be allowed to make any independent decisions regarding her career TBH.

The follow-up album should've been out 4 years ago.

Stick by her work and promote the album likes it's the biggest accomplishment of her career. People will eventually catch on.

She should promote, promote, promote. Good Morning America. Stephen Colbert. Get involved with the Mamdami campaign or something since she's from New York, etc. Pass this off as a cute promo single and release something else in the meantime, maybe something that has a feature with a video. Maybe get someone on the remix for imaginary playerz

Is that show P Valley still running ? She could make a cameo on that as Mercedes sidekick.

Genuinely that bolded part. She is trying soooo hard to I feel to be a "rapper" and scared to lean into what might give her success.

this was a genuine critique of the way they are handling her career on a music forum.

Like If that makes you mad you're in the wrong place sis

I'm sure once her album is released there will be a song that will go viral on TikTok or something.
