Am I getting bullied at work?

Featured Replies

I was working next to these two coworkers and ever since I was placed somewhere else I've received the cold shoulder and many micro-aggressions from them: only greeting the ones next to me, not looking at me in the eye while I was talking to them, disruptive and uncomfortable silences whenever I stepped into their working space, constantly interrupting conversations I'm having with another coworker disregarding me completely, and many more like these. They're singling me out on purpose.

I always treated them with respect and kept things cordial and professional- still do. I still greet them anyway, I look at them in the eye when talking to them and have no problem addressing them. Their reactions are always a low mumble and turning their face away. I always keep a professional distance and don't engage in cheap gossip: when I was seated next to them all they ever did was talk shite about literally everyone and even disrespected me to my face- to which I literally didn't show any kind of reaction, I was still working.

My conscience is 100% clean and I'm aware that I haven't said anything disrespectful nor have I crossed any line, but they are the ones creating a very uncomfortable environment at work only for me, and apparently nobody else notices. I refuse to acknowledge or tell my closest coworkers about this, or else I'm giving them the power and satisfaction that I'm starting to crack. I had the feeling and suspicion that this has to be some type of bullying or harassment cause it's starting to affect me and how I perform at my job. I read what HR had to say in these cases and this "indifference" is actually undercover hostility. I know I have to go to HR but I also know how much more uncomfortable things can get by doing so. I guess I'm asking you guys for words of encouragement and support.

On a serious note, as long as it pays the bills who gives a **** about those two idiots. They're obviously stuck in a regine george highschool mode and are miserable in their life.

Yes it is. And I would just confront them. Dont allow yourself to be treated like trash. If you keep allowing them to interrupt you / leave you out on purpose it will only worsen over time.

Social power and mind games play a big part of this job, and they're taking advantage of that. If things are directed at me like interrupting I'll have to step in eventually but I have to tread lightly.

Maybe they're homophobic? Sue them for workplace discrimination!

i'd honestly continue to act unbothered and kill them with kindness. i know it's hard but just keep being nice to them, these types of people literally HATE when you continue being friendly and professional to them and it gets under their skin.

at some point they'll start to crack and won't be able to keep up the passive hostility without other colleagues taking notice; you'll have a more compelling argument to make if other people see how they're making workplace a hostile environment too.

unless this situation gets to the point where your job performance is absolutely impaired by the distress they're causing you, then resort to taking action and take note of every instance that's happened. until then, don't let these weirdos see you sweat & continue enjoying the relationships with the coworkers you like and show up for your job as normal, you don't have time to focus on these grown people that play games at work. hope things get better for you sister, keep us posted. :heart2:

Don't go to HR about this.

The type of petty behavior they're doing is tame enough to where there's no real way to prove it's malicious - and their attitude towards you will likely get worse (they'll just probably hide it better).

Focus on the people you like, but if something more actionable happens, know your options.

How about going to them one morning and ask like "Hey.... Why are you so obsessed with me?"

I don't think this is proper bullying, they're just being rude for whatever reason. If you already know they will act this way towards you just avoid interacting with them unless you absolutely have to. These things are not worth stressing over.

You need to start completely ignoring them sis. Unless u have to closely work with them, I'm sure you can ignore them and try to interract with them as little as possible.

You were placed somewhere else, as in, promoted? Well then it's understandable why they act like this. However, if you weren't promoted, then it's advised to:

- ignore

- go passive-aggresive, think kindergarten pettiness (by being understanding and nice in the body language, watered down, but agressive and upfront verbally)

- if needed - confront, but it's best if you have some evidence to back it up.

Otherwise, if you don't feel that much bothered, simply ignore.

As other people have said in this thread: they don't pay your bills, you don't owe them nothing.

There's probably some deep rooted issue that they are dealing with, unrelated to you but in turn affects the way they act around you and other people. why would you even want their approval, opinion or even give them any thought though? Ignore them completely unless related to work matters, they are not worth the time and sound energy draining.
