At least two Thai civilians have been killed and two others injured by shelling from Cambodia, according to a Thai district official, as armed clashes broke out between the militaries of the South-East Asian neighbours. Two Cambodian provinces came under shelling from Thailand's military, according to Cambodia's influential former premier Hun Sen.

                                                                                                                                                                                                                       

Cambodian prime minister Hun Manet has said Thailand attacked Cambodian army positions at Prasat Ta Moan Thom and Prasat Ta Krabey in Oddar Meanchey province and expanded to the area along Cambodia's Preah Vihear province and Thailand's Ubon Ratchathani province. "Cambodia has always maintained a position of peaceful resolution of problems," he said, quoted by the Associated Press. "But in this case, we have no choice but to respond with armed force against armed aggression." Thailand 'closing border' with Cambodia

Cambodia's defence ministry has confirmed Thai airstrikes on the country, saying Thailand used fighter jets to drop two bombs on a road.

Thai embassy urges nationals to leave Cambodia over border clashes

Agence France-Presse is reporting that Thailand's embassy has urged nationals to leave Cambodia over the border clashes.

It comes after Thailand recalled its ambassador to Cambodia on Wednesday and said it would expel Cambodia's envoy in Bangkok, after a second Thai soldier in the space of a week lost a limb to a landmine in the disputed area.

Thai army caused casualty first, and it is just the same boring old story of the King trying to undermine the government and take more control. 

 

If you look at the world history map evolution you would realize the undisputed fact that Thai people originated from Cambodia + China, so who you calling Cambochina?

Also not you shading the Cambodian goverment that was endorsed by and is still heavily linked to Vietnam from, well, Vietnam

Funny how this happens just weeks after the arrest of Kok An in Thailand. Scambodian feeder bowl must've been stepped on badly, so badly it went berserk on a 7-11 and hospital.

Thai acting PM says Cambodia clashes 'could develop into war'

Thailand's acting prime minister warned that cross-border clashes with Cambodia "could develop into war" amid the second day of trading strikes.

Phumtham Wechayachai, cited by AFP, told reporters in Bangkok:

 

"If the situation escalates it could develop into war, though for now it remains limited to clashes."

 

He also said the exchanges had affected people's lives and that the government had "protected our nation and sovereignty".

 

Thailand 'ready' for talks as international pressure for ceasefire mounts

Thailand's foreign ministry has signalled it is open to diplomatic talks with Cambodia to end the current border clashes.

"We are ready, if Cambodia would like to settle this matter via diplomatic channels, bilaterally, or even through Malaysia, we are ready to do that. But so far we have not had any response," foreign ministry spokesperson Nikorndej Balankura told AFP.

He added that there were signs the fighting was beginning to ease. Malaysia, who currently chairs the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), have previously called for a ceasefire.

The United States has also urged an "immediate" end to the conflict, while France, Cambodia's former coloniser, has also called for a cessation of hostilities, according to AFP.

The European Union and China, a close ally of Cambodia, have also expressed concern about the violence and pressed both sides to seek dialogue.

 

Cambodia claims Thailand committing 'war crimes'

A spokesperson for Cambodia's Ministry of National Defence has accused Thailand of committing war crimes, claiming the Thai military carried out airstrikes and used cluster munitions and heavy weapons at seven locations inside Cambodian territory. According to Cambodian local media reports, Lieutenant General Maly Socheata said the attacks began at 8:46am on Thursday and included the use of F-16 fighter jets.

Earlier, we reported that Cambodia alleged that cluster munitions had been used in attacks – which are banned in some instances under international law. "These acts of aggression are both brutal and inhumane," Maly said. "They violate international law, including the Convention on Cluster Munitions... and reflect a disregard for the most basic humanitarian norms."

Cambodia's defence ministry also claims it has repelled further attempts by Thai forces to advance near contested temples along the border.

There has been no immediate response from the Thai military.
