Was Tinashe ahead?

Featured Replies

After the success of her debut album, and while struggling to release her sophomore (*** you RCA), Tinashe tried other markets and new genres that would later become global trends and dominant genres in the current decade.

The year is 2016.

Her collaboration with Enrique Iglesias came way before Despacito stomped and opened the door for reggaeton and other latin genres to infiltrate the American audience.

Her collaboration with Far East Movement and Chanyeol happened before kpop became a thing in Western markets. BTS and Blackpink were totally unknown.

Lastly, this underrated collaboration with Davido, an artist that nowadays represents the Afrobeats genre that many American artists such as Beyonce and Selena Gomez incorporated in their music.

These collaborations showcase Tinashe's versatility, but also, her ability to innovate and her potential as a popstar.

I love Tinashe but she wasnt ahead or before, just unlucky. not everybody makes it. that's the business

Yes High Fashion by Addison (one of the most acclaimed and hyped pop album of 2025) sounds like something Tinashe would've released 10 years ago

Saying she was ahead in terms of dipping her toes in those genres and collaborating with artists before most major pop acts is fair and valid, but crediting her with the popularity of those things is…another

Even without what you posted in the OP, it's well established that Tinashe is very versatile

She's your favorite kpop artist's favorite artist for a reason

She's always a few spots ahead of crossing the magical bubbling under chart line into hot 200 :jonny5:

Where do I credit her for the popularity of those genres? All I said is that she did them before they became popular. I clearly mention Despacito and BTS/Blackpink as the benchmarks for the global success of their genres.

I wouldn't necessarily say that she's an innovator but she's definitely underrated & brilliant. Definitely a genuine talent, not everybody has that in music these days.

She's always been ahead of her time.

She did make it though... just because she's not getting back to back #1s as an independent artist without major backing doesn't mean she still isn't successful. She can still tour, play festivals, and release what she wants to release whenever she wants to release it. There are major label artists who haven't seen the Billboard Hot 100 (and international charts) as recently as she has.

Her mixtapes, Nightride, 333 and her recent work all prove shes an innovator
