She should've released the solo version instead. I think it's a song that speaks to a lot of what Gaga was dealing with publicly during that time 2012-2013.

What it didn't need was the feature.

There's a reason it was an immediate favorite, it's top 3 on the album (Applause and Venus are the other two).

 

The feature was an incredibly dumb idea and she should have known better. It didn't even need a feature at all, I actually like her second verse.

i always liked DWYD btu it was never one of my favs on ARTPOP. it was always lower in my rankings.

as of right now id rank it at (roughly)

1. Swine (lemme edit and say that prefer the unreleased extended mix)
2. MANiCURE
3. ARTPOP (i like the demo 1 version the most i think i just love the alt lyrics)
4. Aura (the Burqa demo is better which ive replaced the album version with)
5. Sexxx Dreams
6. Applause (this one is kinda a loose cannon, it can literally be anywhere in the ranking above #10)
7. Gypsy
8. Jewels N Drugs
9. Venus
10. G.U.Y.
11. Mary Jane Holland

JnD is much better than MJH but many here would not get it. MJH is one of Gaga's only songs hard carried by the production and even then it's still bottom tier on ARTPOP.

It's one of the best songs on the album, so it WAS needed

 

Good thing I didn't even know who R Kelly was before this song, so I didn't have any issues with him being on the song at first 

Could have easily been one her bigger hits if they didn't want the controversy.

agreed, this song never did much for me.  the album is fine without it. 

 

I use the Xtina version, which I prefer anyway.

Love the song, removing it was just a hypocrite move. Also everyone had been knowing for a long time who that guy was

It's still one of the better songs on the album but she should've just not chosen a child raPISSt to collab with. The Weeknd would've nailed it.

Interesting! I wasn't aware MJH was so polarizing here—more so than JND?—but I can kinda see why it would be.
