Since WWT seems to be having a good amount success, I was surprised to see Dan Nigro produced the song, since it sounds nothing like Nigro's other works and in fact is more reminiscent of Melodrama (which was an Antonoff project).

 

Which got me thinking — is Nigro overtaking Antonoff as the hottest pop producer of the moment? If so, why?

 

My working theory is that Dan allows his artists to stay true to their sound — SOUR/GUTS, Rise and Fall, and now WWT, sound nothing alike. Jack, meanwhile, gets his artists to adopt his sound — to the point where Lana had issues with Lorde's Nail Salon, a song Jack produced.

 

As a Taylor fan — I see more than a few similarities in his production choices from folkmore to TTPD — which makes me eager to see her reclaim her sound, to speak, once she breaks out of his bubble.

Dan Nigro produced "love is embarrassing" so I'm inclined to agree

 

Guys, I don't think Dan Nigro had that much influence on WWT honestly. Btw they explained what happened, he was called last minute to try to figure something out, and that was it. I also think that because of that, WWT might be the only track he worked on on L4

I'm not really a fan of Nigro's actually. Can't vibe with how loud most of the songs he's produced are.

Currently yes, overall no.

Jack has more songs to his name, but I like Dan's use of instrumentation better, and actually uses interesting chord progressions. He also knows how to properly utilise drums, unlike the other one.

it's obvious jim-e stack was more involved in the production of the song than dan nigro. you can hear his style all over the track

I mean, he's going to be appreciated until he's overworked due to his popularity. Everyone's going to want him now that he bagged the Grammy for Producer of the Year.

 

The same happened with Jack. He was highly appreciated and critically acclaimed until he became a pass-around producer. Then, he was churning albums out every 10 minutes, with them having strong similarities (Solar Power x Daddy's Home x Sling), which resulted in him being labeled repetitive.

Dan hasn't made anything that reaches the level of brilliance of Hard Feelings/Loveless or Venice *****, so no.

Even though he has produced a lot of stuff and it's getting same-y, I'm still leaning towards Jack, he is an excellent producer. Dan is great, too, he is one of the most promising producers right now.

Lorde was being compared to Lana long before Jack Antonoff even entered the picture.

 

Producers naturally end up creating songs that sound alike - and that's pretty common:

 

- Max Martin's teen pop hits from the late 90s and early 2000s always shared the same bubblegum sound and followed the same formula. And today his synth-heavy tracks with Ariana and The Weeknd aren't worlds apart either.

- Pharrell's bouncy, minimalist R&B hits could easily blur into each other.

- Timbaland had an entire run of pop-R&B songs built on the same beats, vocal effects, and grooves.

- Even Daniel Nigro - listen to Olivia Rodrigo and Conan Gray ballads, or compare Good Luck, Babe! to So Hot You're Hurting My Feelings - you'll catch the similarities

I wouldnt say Guts and Rise and Fall are that different. Rise and Fall still has the New Wave/Pop-rock influences it's just a bit more synthy. But yea shocked that he did What Was That.

As a producer Dan Nigro has broken two of the biggest new pop stars of the decade, Olivia and Chappell. That's the gold standard, if you can break an artist it's a much bigger deal than giving hits to someone who is already established. So I'd say Dan is probably the #1 producer at the moment because of that.

I prefer Jack but he's had a hand in producing for way more artists so we can see more of what he's capable of.

 

However, Dan has been producing music for others for just as long as Jack has and is a phenomenal producer, about time he's gotten a chance to shine brighter.
