The problem is that her idea of accessible pop music is dated and subpar stuff like Raising Hell and Yippee. It's delusional to think that the GP will care about songs like this and it's even more delusional if she thinks this is what her fans want.

It's not a coincidence that Joyride was her most successful song in almost a decade because it's the perfect intersection between accessible and fan-service.

In my opinion Raising Hell and Yippee are polar opposites in terms of accessibility. I don't think she thinks this is what the fans want, but there's credence to the idea that the GP would like the song considering it's charting on TikTok... the most popular app with the GP :chick1:

LBR, Joyride was successful because of some really great serendipity, all things considered. I don't think it would have been a runaway hit by any means had circumstances been different, and I think a lot of the same criticism you levy at Yippee could apply to JOYRDIE (loud, abrasive, kinda corny), except it has a 4 on the floor oontz-oontz thing going that gays love, so it gets a pass.

Hope i was not missunderstood :gaycat4: im giving all my attention, streams and i been spreading yipiyay everywhere.  im not giving up on that song*
If she wants a hit for country music. Thats the right song. feels very timber. but yes things would be very different with the backup of a big label
i just feel like it would be interesting if she appeals to that pop crowd with heavy edm next with boycrazy or other one in that vibe

But youre all right. We need to stop puttin kesha in a box-mold. The country artist. the edm artist. the survivor* She's more than that.
Just allow her to release whatever she feels like and be experimental. Some songs will be masterpieces some songs will be mid and thats ok
Joyride was experimental with the hyper-pop polka pop thing
Maybe thats the lane. Kesha coming with new genres and stuff :gaycat2: if the song is good enough it will be a good smash like it happened to nasty by tinashe
u can have hits even if youre independent. Just the right viral thing

Couldn't disagree more bestie. Joyride was acclaimed by most publications and it's just the essence of what Kesha is: fun, stupid pop music that is a bit intellectual. It sits well with 360, Good Luck Babe, Angel Of My Dreams etc... in having an overarching concept but also boppable and most importantly cool. She basically understood the assignment.

Yippee is like the anti-cool pop song.

Radio interviews did wonders for High Road and Gag Order

:suburban:

She did tons of other stuff as well this week? She was literally on the Kelly Clarkson Show, Drew Barrymore Show, lit up the Empire State Building, accepted an award and did a PAPER shoot :rip:.

And Gag Order didn't even have any radio interviews, she was merely on Zane Lowe and that's it.

The type of promo definitely is not the reason why High Road performed the way it did.

This era is so messy! Is the budget 1000$? Why haven't we gotten a music video or performances for nothing yet :deadbanana4:

This makes no sense.

What budget did you expect? Kesha is an independent artist, there is no major label funding music videos. Joyride only got one (after 4 months) because it performed so well.

The album comes out in July, her new management won't use all promo slots and steps in April and they certainly won't focus on music videos that nobody watches anymore.

Crush has done more to promote this era already than RCA/Vector ever did for High Road and Gag Order.

There is more but you get my point. Radio is a waste of her time, they're not going to play her songs sadly.

The Empire State Building thing sadly went completely unnoticed and the engagement on her Paper shoot (that was sickening) is very low on Instagram. Excited for Drew and Kelly interviews and I'm sure she shot a lot of YouTube videos.

I'm serious?

Listen, I stan her, i just think more can get done is all this era is low key sloppy but let's see what she has in store the next couple months.

FWIW her stop to the Empire State Building is super viral on TikTok. One of the clips has 3M views.

I know these things seem small potatoes but they really work in the long run when building brand recognition. Crush is clearly focused on getting her name out there again with a younger audience.

Gag Order" would have been much more successful if it had been released in 2020-early 2021 when the pandemic happened.
It feels so much like an album from that era
When we talk about the pandemic albums like folklore and chromatica and all of those :gaycat4:
GAG its always in those playlists to me. So moody and dark.
Perfect for those liminal days where you feel reflective-reflexionando about life

i hope she does a full on country album. a weird country kesha album would be a bop.

The discourse about promo is so tiring, can we please be realistic, in the past two weeks she lit up the Empire State Building, played a Boiler Room set, had her Paper Magazine photoshoot, ESPN ad, LGBT center award, filmed for Drew Barrymore & Kelly Clarkson shows, and announced her biggest tour. These are all great opportunities for her and I'm not sure what more people are expecting. Is she supposed to go into "space" or something? Be for real :rip:

SNL please

I have to be honest. I dont like feuds and stuff but Promo is promo :clack:

Even though we theoretically got a ton of promo this week, I feel strange for not being more excited, I think due to how everything was so compressed into a single week. Especially things like the award ceremonies and "lighting up the Empire State Building" were kind of non-events outside of her amazing looks and outfits, idk. I'm more itching for more (good) music (FREE BOY CRAZY AND BOP IT.)

I have a feeling (I hope) this is going to be more effective for her than all the events she did this week tbh

Joyride being a hit was abnormal for someone that is independent, she's not chasing the hits anymore, nor has the whole machinery behind her to get one easy. So not surprised there's not a lot of promo for that.

She might actually do some promo near the album and of course the tour though.

PERIOD (pun intended)! :clap3:

so how are y'all scrobbling Joyride and Delusional now that they have periods at the end of them? I'm debating whether I wanna edit my scrobbles since I have last.fm pro and I can just permanently change my future scrobbles back to having no periods :fan:
