Absolutely nuts to try rename the Gulf of Mexico. Everyone else around the world just pointing and laughing frankly at this.

 

But there again why did Turkey apparently get a pass to try to rename itself Turkiye (with an umlaut), and seemingly demand everyone else calls it that? Equally nuts.

most non-English speaking countries have their native name and the English name so i don't think this the same at all

I simply do not understand what you are saying.

 

My point is, it's like say Germany deciding everyone should call them Deutschland regardless of whether English speakers call them Germany, or French speakers Allemagne etc etc

 

Imagine the Brits announced to the French you can't call us Royaume Uni, it's got to be United Kingdom.

 

The French would tell the Brits to f** off.
