I get what you're saying but I feel like nobody is riding on that lane that NewJeans themselves created. You're not saying any of those big groups doing "lo-fi tiktok'd music" - most of them are still riding on their own lane. The only one you could complain about would be ILLIT and we know how that story goes.

 

K-pop songs getting shorter is just a matter of them following the worldwide pop music trend of songs getting shorter - nothing to do with NewJeans. They just had the misfortune of arriving at the exact time where songs started getting shorter and they managed to master that and succeed.

 

if anything, NewJeans' departure is what's leading to k-pop's decline in popularity. Even i myself felt a bit disconnected with k-pop after the whole NJZ / HYBE scandal and the crazy thing is i started liking k-pop 12 years ago now; I didn't start liking it only with NewJeans. Many of my friends know NewJeans and their songs - friends who never cared about k-pop before despite me mentioning it here and there and playing a few songs.

 

NewJeans just cracked the code like no other recent group was able to. Definitely not their fault that k-pop is declining.

They need to continue the MEOW, BODY and HANDS UP route asap. The more they incorperate their whole feline aesthetic into their music it'll help differentiate and give their brand originality and longevity since it's such a diverse category to explore. 

She has such obvious star quality. Such a natural x factor. 

Hands Up and MEOW are def my favorites but I do really like the sound of Toxic as well.

But like I said, aespa has been serving music for the gays for the past year and they're succeeding with it and that's perfect  but just because they have success now doesn't make them the "saviours of K-POP" or their songs the best music right now. K-POP needs more than 1 gg collecting hits.
