Well he did actually sing GDs most recent solo song. 

 

I had no idea he also said this about other idols. More famous and respected Western singers have gone a lot harder with the GD praise. He's not exactly an artist who appeals exclusively to kpop whales, or appeals to them at all actually. This might be outlandish to a stay but to a GD stan these things are normal. The menswear creative director for the biggest fashion brand in the world, Louis Vuitton, called G-Dragon an inspiration to his work and was posting casual studio pics during the recording of Übermensch, despite the fact that GD is the face of their biggest competitor and close friends with the director of that brand too.

IU is a much better songwriter and vocalist than Taylor and still has more eclectic taste than all other global pop girlies, that taste just isn't new or exciting anymore now that she's just rereleasing the same songs over and over again.

 

If you didn't watch her encore concert, I highly recommend giving it a watch, she still puts on world class shows and clearly cares about music as an art form on a level that most pop stars do not.

 

I see it more as stagnation, she brought in writers and didn't make any of Lilac by herself to freshen up her sound and free up her schedule and it did wonders, only for her to take more control of her next big release and essentially regress as an artist back to where she was in the 2010s. Almost every song on the EP sounds like 2017/8 IU trying to recreate the vibe of specific songs from Lilac( celebrity - shopper, holssi - flu, love wins all - my sea, etc) just less successfully. It's made even more baffling by the fact that she didn't even attempt to lean into the disco/city pop/ retro dance influences from the projects that put her on the map outside of Asia, including the title track from the album she was recreating.

Honestly IU is still one of the best artists that kpop has to offer, and I mean that genuinely. You must be feeling what you're feeling about her only because she's currently rehashing the same sounds that worked for a larger demographic and just doubling down on it instead of focusing on what made her unique and genuine and quirky. 
 

having said that, every discussion on k-soloist makes me miss Sunmi even more. Like what is my queen doing?! She's probably the closest to having a female soloist in kpop who can balance the mainstream pop diva  aspects with her own unique worldview so well, but now she's getting lazy. That full album is never coming huh

I love Sunmi she is amazing and she has shown so much character in her work.

 

I think its more of a money issue than laziness tbh. Her songs dont chart as they used to...

You can tell IU is in another class because even our messiest users(myself included) are respectful and thoughtful about criticizing her instead of going straight for the neck like normal
