Not even BTS could unite all the other fandoms, kpoop and its deranged fans are too divided into their online bubbles where they think random b-tier twinks with 0 hits are world stars, they couldn't rally behind real stars like they used to.

The 2010s were really SM's peak. I'd say they started to lose it a little bit once every other company's 3rd gen idol groups really hit their stride in the later half of the decade though.

GG are still one of the top touring Asian acts of all time. And they never had a world tour. Did all that before social media. Preforming in France, NYC, and LA stadiums to promote Hallyu. Real people across the globe showed out for SM acts. And primarily for Girl's Generation. Thier first tour was the most successful Kpop tour of its time selling so much so that it actually was a record in Asia in 2009 for having the most attendance recorded in Taiwan. They didn't just earn the title of Number 1 group from fans, that's what the media across several Asian territories called them for years. The 2nd Tour in 2011 was in the news for being the most expensive K-pop concert ever produced. Back to back concerts selling over 20,000 individual tickets. Yes that's 20k Real People Real People per show back in 2011. And those weren't even thier biggest tours cuz the next year they started touring Japan and made $18 Million from just a 5 city tour in Japan alone. 140K people. All this still years before K-pop was where it's at now where any nugu group can tour, and that's because SNSD open the Hallyu doors. That's not just Stan talk, they did that. That past is why kpop went from niche to mainstream. Sure Kpop acts now can do stadiums way bigger and Coachella and Lolla, but let's not act like SM couldn't have done that if SNSD stayed a priority.

I say around Super-M times, when they started to lose thier image and couldn't keep up with BTS domination.

SM's biggest issue is that they dump their girl groups and don't reheat their nachos. SNSD and f(x) were still insanely popular and they dropped them as K-pop was growing. JYPE and YG were quick to bring in clone groups for SNSD whereas SM continued f(x) for Red Velvet and traded their electronic influences for R&B. Letting White Fox get dumped just for HYBE to scoop them up as NewJeans will forever be the biggest blunder in K-pop, though it's probably a good thing because we wouldn't have gotten Aespa.

 

I think SM's problem is they always have the same pattern. The artists debut with a polarizing sound, their artists will then make whatever sound they do trendy and then SM ditches that newly trendy sound instead of capitalizing on it. We've had so many Whiplash/taste of iron songs this year (Bebe, Gnarly, etc.) from everyone EXCEPT Aespa.

Not SKZ vs. SNSD.  SKZ are just part of the interchangeable boy group lineups that can't score a hit, but can create a weird parasocial relationship with underage fans because they're hot, decent men.
 

Meanwhilr, SNSD created the market here in America for K-pop by appealing to the masses with incredible music and memorable performances. SKZ would have never launched K-pop here. Hell, they probably wouldn't have debuted if JYPE didn't have their SNSD clones (TWICE) to pay for SKZ's flop years.

Y'all really need to stop trying to make SNSD happen, give it up, they have been replaced by so many groups and are mostly forgotten outside of this thread. They aren't event the biggest SM group
