exo and red velvet had SO much potential and charted well on itunes/billboard, and had great streams on spotify/youtube.

sm is very late with catering to the western audeince, while everyone has already moved on to spotify autoplay/playlists, they are busy with youtube (which they were late for it too).

 

 

we need to stop viewing them as blackpink's successors but rather baby shark's opps

I think there's a stigma around SM groups for american K-pop fans. It seems a lot see them as more plastered and manufactured who neither sing live, write their own songs or their groups dynamics doesn't seem as genuine as the average K-pop group.

 

They need a group to break this stigma first and It will impact on the following groups...

Stray Global found success thanks to their authentic self-production and having an edgier sound that appeals to U.S. listeners especially Kpop fans over there.  It totally makes sense, why they are popular over there, so you don't need to be shady  

 

 

At one point, Red Velvet was SM's biggest act in the U.S. They remain the only SM group to have ever charted on Spotify US for example, and they did it back in 2018. In fact, they were the first K-pop girl group to chart there, even before BLACKPINK and TWICE, which shows that the potential was definitely there. They just never received the same level of push in the U.S. as groups like NCT, SuperM, or aespa.

SM isn't trying to get a big break in the charts in this US, all they try is to please the fan base and growing the fan base to ensure a way to tour. 

 

Most of these feature you can tell it was coming from them distribution/management pack.

Cmon now. They did/are doing stadiums in Chile, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, Canada, and the USA. And it's not like it's just a handful of fans bulk buying concert tickets.
