I know, I'm just saying that it doesn't really qualify as a "damage control" era if it was already in the works before her backlash during ARTPOP

 

Her era of cover performances at different events in 2015-2016 was more of a damage control era tbh

Definitely Confessions On A Dance Floor. Madonna wasn't into typical music anymore but after American Life flopped, she made a dance record and it smashed.
