Honestly I agree with the critics. I just listened and it's easily her worst album and could be up there with worst album of the year. I don't understand her meaning behind going this route. It sounded really dated and the lyrics are so so so bad. Katy is always her best on more slower, personal songs... (thinking of you, unconditionally...etc). This dance house pop stuff doesn't fit her voice and style at all. I'm so confused by it all especially since music seems like to migrating towards a retro sound.

This sounds more pathetic than funny although the drags are deserved for this album. Never get people bragging about posting on ATRL :skull: .

 

Anyways, if she cannot find her any creative bone in her body anymore she should just retire. This album was entirely useless.

Let's be real: nobody foresaw the level of historic disaster this album would bring to the table before the rollout began. 

Just last year, when Katy Perry announced that she had been working on new music, the internet's desire to see her great again was palpable. They were more than ready to celebrate her abdicating the years-long throne of pop music's Flop Empire.

2020's Smile, while housing some ear candies, was a middle-of-the-road return that, for the first time in her career, did not make it to the No. 1 spot on both US and UK charts. Wasn't the lightning-struck arrival of "Never Really Over" meant to prelude something? All expectations were then re-routed to her seventh effort, which, to many's dismay, turns out to be one of this decade's most astounding car crashes in the industry.

On the bright side, though, 143 adds more shade to a colourful year of pop music.

The HUGE problem I have with this album is that it's obvious that most of these Dr. Luke songs were written and produced solely for rappers in mind. But since Katy isn't one, they tried to rewrite it with her as compelling pop songs, but with weak verses and a lack of bridges and outros. That's why it feels lifeless and boring

 

I can definitely see songs like Gorgeous, I'm His He's Mine, Artificial, Nirvana, and Crush being released by female rappers with Katy as the featured artist

 

The stark difference between the Dr. Luke songs and the Stargate/Cirkut song at the end is very evident, and it's not even funny :skull:

Metacritic hasn't updated yet, but (besides the one from The Guardian) we already have counting for MC:

  • 2/5 from The Independent
  • 2/5 from NME
  • 5/10 from The Clash
  • 2/10 from Line Of Best Fit
  • no score from Variety (review reads very negative)
