Overall the album is so good, but I just dislike Shoulda Woulda Coulda, IWH2BMX, Nocturnal, Bending My Rules and I'm Just A Girl so much. Every other track is at least good but those just give me the ick. FLO Bop, Fly Girl, Never, Rebound, and Slow Songs deserved the place on the album. If final mastered & mixed versions of those did the switch with the bottom 5 this could be one of my favorite albums of all time

Hmm. 

I was very curious about their second-week sales and yikes. It literally confirms my gut feeling: they are not out of the woods just yet. 

 

The #3 UK debut was very impressive and I liked the "highest charting R&B UK girl group album" spin, but the album chart is a different machine and is easier to debut higher on with so-so sales. Flo maximized their small base with all the physical units etc (9k probably from 3k-4k actual individuals) but it all dropped like a rock second week when you'd think streams would carry them.

 

I stick by the stance that they DO have global buzz, but it's spread out and not sizeable enough in any one single market to give them substantial charting ability anywhere. 

 

I know they changed management and it seems to tally with when they started focusing heavy on the US. It's tricky because, in one regard, go where the opportunities are (e.g. Kehlani tour, Coachella, and a much more active R&B scene), but on the other...it's vital to have a pronounced presence in one's home market first or at the same time.

 

They factually do not yet have a hit charting UK single (speak less elsewhere), so the album plummeting second week is not altogether surprising. 

 

I'll be the first to tug at a label when they don't do right, but Imma need us (because I consider myself a fan of the group) to not rush to judgment if they don't throw all of their weight behind them full throttle...yet. I'll keep saying it: the music business is a business. And, for as talented as FLO are, they aren't proven as a $$$$ generating act. Looking at the producers, writers, and now choreographers that they have in the mix, it's hard to see how they are turning any kind of profit on what probably was like 15k-20k sold WORLDWIDE first week.

 

My only hope is that the label does a Rihanna and simply keep pushing (at a relative $ loss) until it becomes profitable. Good ol' "we believe in em" and will keep pushing.
