The song (WW) objectively is not good. It's just not.

 

These kinds of posts also ignore the context. The issue here is not just that it's produced by Dr. Luke, it's that Katy chose to work with again after having been involved in his very public rape case against a contemporary. That shows a callous disregard for human life and common decency. Some people just don't want to support that.

The issue is that the songs are not catchy. It doesn't have some deeper than meaning of life like u are trying to make it seem, otherwise her non dr luke stuff would have been multi #1 smashes

The A Star Is Born Extended Universe has produced hit soundtracks since the 50s. 

I find the melodies cute and catchy but the beat is sooo bland and generic. As someone above said, sounds like something Bebe Rexha would do.

You will go out and ask about Dr. Luke and - expect for some gays - nobody will even know who he is.

The public will accept a good Dr. Luke song, no matter if it's with Katy or any other artist. But WW is just a bad song, that sounds very AI involved.

Lifetimes is a lowkey better song but also here it lacks.

 

Katys biggest problem: during her entire career she relied too much on Dr. Luke. He was her formula for hits. And this formula is dead since a long time and she failed to switch it and just try a new direction, with some fresh producers and songwriters. Otherwise, why would she release a Dr. Luke song as a lead? She was still hoping for a 2010s moment and obviously she failed.

People will remember her for Teenage Dream album, Roar and Dark Horse and that's fine. But the big hits time is over.

She is quite erudite in pop culture and is well aware of all the undercurrents. At the same time, she rejects all trends, goes against the grain and makes this antique nightmare from the summer of 2009.
