❄️ Holiday Hit 2023 ☃️

 

Ho Ho Ho, Hitmakers! Welcome to Golden Hit’s second annual holiday writing contest.
‘Tis the season of giving, and this year Holiday Hit aims to truly embody that sentiment.

 

The concept of Holiday Hit is simple: players write a song inspired by the festive season,

which will be reviewed, scored, and ranked by a panel of your fellow songwriter judges.

Ultimately, like Mariah Carey’s “All I Want For Christmas Is You” most years without fail,

one song will be presented with the gift of being named the Holiday Hit of the season.

 

This year, however, Holiday Hit plans to enlist an all-new panel of judges: Santa’s Helpers!

Yet per tradition, the only writers they’ll allow to participate in the contest are other Elves.

 

 

❄️ Special Overview ❄️
Writers will submit their seasonal songs anonymously, instead adopting an “Elf Name”.

This may be something you’ve created yourself, or acquired using an Elf Name Generator.

Elves have five days to submit songs via Google Forms before the judging phase begins.

Please do not announce your Elf Name publicly! Your submissions are anonymous.

 

During the judging phase, Elves will be provided with a Google Doc containing all songs.

Elves will also be provided with a judging Google Form, in which they reveal their identity.
Following three days to submit scores, results will be tallied, and a winner will be named.

 

☃️ Rules & Reminders ☃️
Writers who participate understand they will be expected to read and score others’ songs.
Failure to do so will result in their song being ineligible to receive a final score and rank.
Writers’ scores for their own songs will not be taken into consideration. Writers who are

believed to be assigning very low scores to inflate their own ranking will be penalized.
Reviewing each writers’ submission is not required, however it is certainly encouraged.

Holiday Hit aims to be a fun “Secret Santa” style contest, embracing the season of giving!

As all submissions will be entirely anonymous until the conclusion of the judging phase,

yours truly will also be joining in on the festivities. All I want for Christmas is your songs!

I've always liked the idea of an anonymous songwriting tournament, or even just a round, but never knew how to best go about it. This "Secret Santa" format seems perfect for the holiday season, and if it goes well maybe we can do it again next year! I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

Topping "Peppermint World" is certainly going to be a challenge! I'm still undecided if I will be writing something in a similar vein to "Gingerbread Man", or switching it up entirely again... hmm.

All up we received four wonderful holiday hits, which is perhaps fewer than expected, but such is life.

If you submitted, please read all of the songs in the submission document and assign a score between 1-10.

For your own song: assign whatever score you like, as it will be excluded from your song's final average. 

Once all four sets of scores are in, I will tally the results, and reveal the ranking and identities in the thread!

 

Scores (and reviews) are due by Sat. Dec 23, 11:59PM EST

 

Of course, if all four sets of scores are in beforehand we can announce results earlier, so try to do this ASAP!
