to answer the question in the OP: even though I personally believe he is genuinely chopped like a salad or like some cheese on a sandwich in New York, many people cling onto the long lost natural boyish charm he had when he debuted. also he holds the reverence of, for some godforsaken reason, many lesbians, who find his palatable "swag" relatable. he sings about sex with women so many of the butcher of the women in our community love it, and even though he's gross I guess he still holds a slight resemblance to the conventional good looks he once possessed, so audience members who are into dudes can romanticize him for what he was in like 2008. plus, he's a man. male privilege. people need to respect themselves a little more and delete his music and/or presence from their lives and, as for the query in the thread title, yknow I personally didn't think of this, but yes. this would change the course of his career in the way which he's always deserved to have it changed just goes to show how dumb so many humans are!
