First off, Olivia and Taylor are smashing, yes, but they both have their own sounds and styles. Olivia is more of a rock singer/songwriter type and Taylor is an all-genres type singer/songwriter. Ariana is more of a vocalist with some songwriting in her occasionally and has always been more pop/R&B/trap leaning.

 

Secondly, her controversy isn't really that bad compared to what else has happened this year (Lizzo and her harassment/toxic work environment scandal) and given how Doja Cat also had a moment and still managed to get a smash hit, I think Ariana will be just fine. Plus, she's been through controversy before and survived. 

 

She has an established fanbase so with the right song she'll do well.

No, I think she'll be fine. She's riding out a bit of a PR storm right now, but she's still Ariana Grande, she's still a hitmaker and a massive star, and she'll eventually have the movies out to help win people over. She might have peaked with Thank U Next - it's hard to say for sure - but she's not really in that much danger of flopping or fading away.

 

I do think we have to remember that stratospheric fame is typically finite. She's had a decade-long musical career at this point, so it's natural that she may not be as big as she was at her peak, and we should keep that in mind as her next era occurs. We shouldn't hold it to an unrealistic standard commercially. The most important thing is that it's another great album!
