Navyofbadgals Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 Came into to say that todays update was okay, Sundays are always bad for her/dance pop songs so I wasn’t mad. Yesterdays update wasn’t as great so let’s hope it remains stable now we really need a performance
perpetual novice Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 as a major dua stan im lowkey bored of the song already, i'm just not really big on kevin parker as a pop producer, his comfort zone is dreamy slow psychedelic music where you just get lost in the instrumentation, pop songs need that addictive sugary chorus or instrumentation that makes you want to replay it over and over, whereas kevin thrives in making songs that are part of a larger body of work. i'm still on the edge of my seat for the next song though.

liquiddiamonds Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 (edited) I think the issue for some of you (aside of instant smashery as a validation of something) is the lack of euphoria in Houdini in comparison to the instant FN numbers, but I don’t think the song is supposed to be euphoric. Kevin is more than capable of that. The outro for Houdini is an example of what he can do more expansively in other songs and his production for his ex Melody from Melody’s Echo Chamber is out of this world in pure euphoria. I trust him. By the tone of the synths, the focus on the lower end in comparison to the songs in FN, and the subject matter, it’s pretty clear Dua was going for a different mood than the stuff from FN… it makes zero sense to have the same people that focus on the higher end of a song to produce this type of music. She’s been flirting with other references and the end of Houdini even winks to french house classics like Daft Punk and Justice. We haven’t seen yet her whole vision for this project and why these people were the right fit for it and not previous collaborators. It’s a bit too early for Nostalgia for her other project, focus on the future Edited November 13, 2023 by liquiddiamonds 3

There were less users on the world's leading streaming platform, Spotify, at the end of 2019, when the lead single of Dua Lipa's highly anticipated second album, Future Nostalgia (Warner), was released. Streaming slowly displaced the the then-prevalent medium of music consumption, digital downloads, in the 2010s. Since 2019, streaming has tightened its grip on the worldwide music market, with revenue increasing from $11.4 billion to a projected $25.84 billion in 2023. We can see this reflected in the increase of Spotify’s monthly users, the numbers of which we have already mentioned. With more active users on a platform, it follows that there is an increase in user activity. And, in this instance, we can measure user activity by the number of times a song is streamed. If there are more than double the number of users on Spotify now than there were in 2019, we expect songs released in the current year to, on average, enjoy a higher number of streams—because there are more users to stream them. You need only look at list of the 20 most-streamed songs on Spotify in a single day. The records were set almost entirely in the past 18 months. More users, more streams! We may use crude formula to illustrate our point. It ignores other variables. Let us choose the DSN Sunday update you quoted. If it did 3.48 million streams in November 2019, and we apply a 2.12 multiplier to reflect the growth in the number of active users, we COULD say that that is the equivalent of 7.3776 million streams now. Think of a small village in Albania. 100 people live there. The baker there, Mr Ora, sells 50 pieces of his delicious bread Dua Loafa every day. That works out at 0.5 loaves per person. Over the years, the population of the village increases. It doubles! To 200. Mr Ora now sells 75 pieces of Dua Loafa a day, as his potential customer base has increased. But look! The amount of loaves sold per person has decreased to 0.375. Mr Ora's business has grown, but it has not grown commensurate with the village's population. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Albania: the worldwide music industry. The village population: Spotify's user base. Mr Ora's loaves: songs. 5 1

perpetual novice Posted November 13, 2023 Posted November 13, 2023 the backseat data analytics in this topic is sending me the raw stream count vs spotify's user count is completely irrelevant to Dua and the song's performance, all that matters is its chart position. if spotify has way more users but its top charting singles are flatlining on total amount of streams that indicates change in industry wide music consumption and has nothing to do with this single 3
