18 and 19 years into Mariah's and Beyoncés (solo) careers, they released E=MC2 and Renaissance respectively. Which era was bigger worldwide?

Godriah takes home the trophy, imo 

Worldwide Renaissance. 

 

Mariah's mid 00's albums were very US centric. 

Obsessed is not on E=MC2 babe

E=MC2 felt bigger as an era.  Renny as an era lots it’s momentum pretty soon and only got it back once the tour started.

 

Both incredible albums though, highlights in their discographies respectively.

Because it's an obvious response to another thread.

 

OT: E=MC2 has more units in the US and WW. Touch My Body was a multi-week #1 in the US, #3 Europe, #5 UK, #5 Japan Hot 100, #2 Canada, #5 Australia, #3 New Zealand etc that is currently going viral on TikTok 15 years later. E=MC debuted with 463k in the US, is certified in Japan, was #1 on the South Korea monthly chart. It's not rocket science.

It quite literally has more units than Rennie and did at the same amount of weeks after release (despite Rennie having the benefit of the streaming era increasing longevity). 

 

Having a few more top tens in TINY music markets is quite irrelevant, especially when many of those European markets were consolidated in the European chart in 2008 (where E=MC was #3).

 

 

I feel like Renaissance is the bigger album between the two. "Touch My Body" was absolutely huge, though, I remember hearing that a lot more than Beyoncé's singles. Still Beyoncé's celebrity is so much bigger.

Renaissance is bigger WW and it’s going to be bigger in the US too. Cuff It was also bigger than Touch My Body and BMS was bigger than Bye Bye. REN also has successful albums tracks. And Renaissance was released 1 year ago and it’s recently getting a second wind due to the stadium tour Beyoncé is doing. I don’t think it’s fair to compare their celebrity status because Mariah couldn’t even sell theaters in 2009 / 2010. 

I feel like Touch My Body was a bigger and better song.

 

Beyonce has everything else.

Neither smashed outside the US, but Mariah was more impressive. Celeb status it’s Beyoncé since she can tour and make more headlines.

Where is the proof that Mariah did so much more units?

 

Mediatraffic have them both at 1.8-1.9M for 2008/2022 and Chartmasters has E=MC2 at 3.2M total, and Renaissance at 2.6M (without pure sales of about 500k or more included)

 

Renaissance will surpass that in a few months if it hasn’t already despite Mariah having a whole decade advantage. The peaks and the year end charts make it clear that Renaissance was miles bigger in Europe and Oceania, while being on par in the U.S.

 

Then when you add the fact that Renaissance has a STADIUM tour while Mariah couldn’t and still can’t even sellout arenas (even theatres in some countries), Renaissance is the clear winner  

Bigger album is E=MC^2 by a small margin. Bigger celebrity is Bey.

Bigger era overall is Ren because of the huge tour.

And also REN (released in July) was the #17 best selling album of 2022 on IFPI, E=MC2 (released in April) did not make to the top 20 in 2008, it was #26.

I know a lot of people have a problem saying this but Beyonce has outlasted Mariah in terms of longevity 

 

The discussion might be back and forth because Mariah had more smashes in the 90s and that one Xmas song still gives her relevance each year

 

But Bey is smashing 25 years into her career with an album and WW tour than Mariah was at that point which was like 18-19 years.

 

Mariah also was in her 30s and bey is in her 40s and currently is a much bigger celeb than Mariah was in the 00s
