Chromatica: Misunderstood Masterpiece?

Featured Replies

The pretentious gays on this site will tell you its the worst album ever

It's certainly not a "masterpiece" but it's a solid album. It's missing some of the usual Gaga boldness that the other records had. Replay, 911, Babylon, and ROM are up there with Gaga's best bops though

The visuals and DOC were really great as well.

It's not a masterpiece as in deserving of a 90+ MC score, but it's a very solid album and among my top 3 faves from Gaga.

Not a masterpiece but still an amazing album. The hate it gets comes from people with hive mentality who think theyre above pop music but listen to god awful music

Yes. I genuinely enjoy this album and it has so many gems. 1000 Doves >

Chromatica has 2-3 good songs. I really enjoy 911. Replay is cute too. The album is coherent and better than Gaga’s previous attempts but it’s far from a masterpiece come on

I haven't listened much to it. But it wasn't bad

I was only upset that the amazing promo visuals didn't match the overall sound of the record. I wish it sounded less Eurovision and more Arca-esque

The juxtaposition between these aesthetics and the Stupid Love MV was confusing :giraffe:

It definitely isn’t terrible, just… fine, which is why it felt disappointing at the time. It’s impossible to have a strong opinion on it one way or the other, which is out of character for a Gaga album.

It felt like a much better album was hidden in there somewhere but had been sanded off by too many layers of glossy production. I prefer a lot of the demos to the finished product we actually heard.

It is a masterpiece, but it is not misunderstood - but rather the people who don't like it don't appreciate it because they don't like Gaga, or it just isn't for them.

Chromatica is excellent

i love it and i think the concept is really interesting and super clever.

also Stupid Love is great

Finally someone who likes SL!

In my opinion, the singles were all great but besides Free Woman the rest of the album was meh.

You know it's a well reviewed album with a higher MC score than any album by some popstars so this whole "it's bad" narrative your brigade is trying to build will remain stuck to ATRL's 522'd servers.

Are you short-circuiting

It's a good album but a bit too safe. The production should have been more adventurous.

It's boring, unfortunately. I expect more from her musically at this stage of her career. Hopefully she unshackles herself from the prison her fans put her in of needing to "give the gays what they want".

Replay is perfect though.

it’s an extremely mid pop album, nothing more and nothing less

Chromatica is not misunderstood neither a masterpiece in the slightest.

Let it go already.

lowkey i feel like she doesn't like her fans, she truly is a prisoner of them, constantly trying to please them when her career is just not where they want it to be anymore.

A lot of the hatred comes from the fact that the aesthetics of the album & the actual music don’t match.  Album cover, ROM video, etc was giving darker and industrial but the album felt watered down (we all blame BP and yeah I do too).

The album had so much potential but BP ruined it with the way he took the excellent demos and sanitized them

Like this is so good :jonnycat:

It's no masterpiece but it's also not the disaster the ATRL bubble will have you believe. It's a solid album. Then again this is the place that thinks the panned, flop, Loose knockoff, Blackout is the best album of all time.

Definitely, the free woman and ROM demod had that Rena ‘club’ vibe that was then replaced with a watered down basicness. Should’ve gone with that. And as well it was way too commercial in the sense free woman was then paired with this free software to make music on. I think Gaga enooyrf writing this album and partying with BP but then just checked out. I don’t think she had much input on a lot of things, production being one, maybe the MVs bar 911 another. Very different from her past albums

i would say it was easy to understand

it just felt safe and while the visuals

were excellent (yas rain on me and 911)

stupid love being the lead was :deadbanana:

sour candy, replay, and free woman

are great songs but the rest of the

record is just....

now if she came out with dawn of

chromatica or found a way to better

combine the two, i would have liked

it a lot more. that's just my two cents.
