Because Beyonce didn't want any potential issues with a sample clearance after the album came out so they preemptively got one just in case to cover their tracks.  Break My Soul and Show Me Love are both fantastic but neither really sound alike

"Any potential issues with sample clearance" - so you're saying it did sample SML. The completed songs don't sound alike as a whole because Beyonce samples elements and audio layers from many different sources and blends them together.

Not really, it didn't sample Show Me Love.  It's a Marvin Gaye/Blurred Lines issue.

Due to copyright laws, Beyoncé credited songwriters/producers Allen George and Fred McFarlane, for having written this song:

 

 

What Beyoncé actually did was interpolate the remixed version by StoneBridge and Nick Nice:

 

 

Technically, those credited on BMS wrote/produced exactly 0% of what Beyoncé referenced (the instrumental of the remix) which was then interpolated. To use another 2022 example, Harry Style's As It Was interpolates the instrumental of A-ha's Take On Me but no one says that the song samples it. Harry chose not to credit the original inspiration, Beyoncé did, and went extra by crediting the people who wrote the song and original production, but not those who made the remix because legally remixers don't get writing credits.

 

And if you compare the synth from Show Me Love to BREAK MY SOUL, you can hear it's a similar, but different melodic structure.
