RV is definitely the dark horse of SM, and their success is very organic despite SM not giving a damn about them   They are technically the biggest and most successful gg from SM if we only go by paper and stats such as streams and sales. Haven't they outsold SNSD as well? The fact that they are in trinity with BP & TWICE just shows how big they are, since none of the other SM ggs prior to them had to compete with the likes of BP & TWICE. The biggest mystery to me is how SM shelved RV and EXO globally in favor of NCT and SuperM, when the previously mentioned duo was always more popular in the West

Probably not. The President getting involved is probably just mediaplay so that he can look "useful" or whatever.

 

However, SM mentions in the video that if the acquisition fully goes ahead, HYBE would supposedly control over 60% of all of Korea's top selling artists and they kinda have a point.

 

The risk is HYBE at that point would essentially have a monopoly over the K-Pop industry, with strong powers to stamp out any competitor...which brings a high risk of industry stagnation and then decline = bad news for international exporting.

 

This is one big reason why strict antitrust/competition laws exist in nearly all developed countries.

The CFO presented a very compelling case on the video. Especially the breakdown in percentages of what would mean if HYBE's acquisition goes through would mean to the K-Pop industry revenue. That's a pretty baffling monopoly, SM have a point I fear.

Oh so SM idols are afraid of being neglected with hybe management, but I believe is quite the opposite, I feel SM as a company would be functioning just like Big hit, source, ador, belift lab and pledis they will still be managing their artists. 

 

When contract renewals are up a lot of current SM artists will leave :/ I care mostly for red velvet I hope whatever they decide to do they re able to have cbs as a group
