Is Sam Smith's decade long longevity underrated?

Featured Replies

Never had an album scan less than Platinum in the US + more globally.

A Diamond single, first US Top 10 in 2012 but first US #1 in 2022, 10 years later.

Always had a US Top 10 every era and even a UK #1. Top 10 in 2012, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019 and now in 2022.

7 US Top 10s and countless UK smash hits across 10 years.

They get a few hits but their latest albums have never reached the relevance of their first one.

Sam is still smashing in terms of singles. The last two albums have been a bit less of a success in the charts. I think Gloria will be more successful again

few hits

What this is than? and Sam is 2M shy from going 10M albums in USA alone, sure their not close to their debut but their still successful albums in general…

Wew 6/10 years with a top 10 in the US  :jonnycat:

Sam’s OVERALL albums units are quite good, close 40M to be exact.

In The Lonely Hour just passed 20M mark while their follow ups & non albums tracks helped it reach damn near another 20M :rip:

Y’all always to try to undermine Sam in some shape or form, when they’ve been very low key consistent.

OT: Yes.

They're doing great idk why people love to hate on them and underestimate their success. They went from ballads to bops. They found their footing in terms of bops once again, bc Love Goes missed the mark at times.

Yes, I personally don't like Sam's music much but the hate they get is unwarranted. I think it they were more conventionally attractive the gays would stan more. We should be supporting our own artists guys at least by not bullying them. :katie:

It is. They are my fav and i didnt think they had a hit like Unholy left in them. Im just glad i dont have to endure another cycle of orphan singles.

Talent won & didn’t realize Sams album is coming out the same day as Ava max :deadbanana4:

Looking back at it, yes severely underrated. There’s always at least one song I love from their eras.

Oh absolutely and I used to think they were never going to score another big hit for some reason, but truth is they've always been consistent in making hits. "Unholy" still feels as a comeback, idk how to explain but it's MASSIVE, and probably ends up as one of Sam's signature hits.

Yes, a non-binary royal who hhas been withh us for years and withh success this late in their career. Not many girls hhave thhat.

I think you need to check the H key on your keyboard

OT: It's really astonishing, hard work and talent really pays off!

There was nothing with the keyboard, I just did it on purpose because I was bored.

no. they only had a big era.

Yes, indeed! They have one of the biggest careers out of any british pop act from the last 10-15 years and Unholy seems to become their biggest song ever on top of a long list of huge global hits already. That song has been literally insecapable since release, I've heard it everywhere.

Plus, they're always putting out quality material with their music. I'm looking forward to hear Gloria, the snippets sound very promising!

The Thrill of It All is such a great album :jonnycat:

Also let's talk about how To Die For was robbed from massive commercial success... one of the best songs ever made in the last 10 years!!!

ATRL always ignores this type of success. They want the big era

But what they don't know is that in the streaming era it's better to have a hits spread in every era than have one good album and fade like their favs

Yes, and it would be even better if TTOIA and Love Goes were not as mismanaged as they were (TGAG overshadowing all the other songs on the album and the pandemic pushing back Love Goes).

Honestly I dragged them recently and said I was surprised unholy was a hit, but my friend clocked me. They've legit had at least one major smash every other year for the past decade.

It doesn't feel like it because the eras aren't so tangible but they're majorly successful single wise

Poor that, her fans on Twitter thinking she’s actually gonna do something :laugh2:

Ma'am, what longevity? Charting less than 2 days on spotify with a solo single? :deadbanana4::deadbanana4:
