wouldn’t buying a scalper resell ticket at 5 K still be cheaper than hiring a lawyer ? Hopefully it’s a class action lawsuit

I really hope it's gonna work out, what happened was just inexcusable and blatant fraud. Their monopoly need to be broken one way or another.

Ticketmaster can’t do a whole lot when it comes to scalpers buying tickets so those Swifties are really wasting their time and money. There’s already a limit on the number of tickets that can be purchased using 1 credit card. 

Is it possible to get rid of all the scalper sites?

Ticketmaster can easily ban reselling tickets at a higher price, and put a contract in that the ticket will be cancelled if found to do so.  

 

Every single scalper charging tickets at 50x the cost should simply get their ticket cancelled, without a refund, and told to go eat ****.

Ticketmaster have a cap on how much more fans resell tickets on their site for. They really have no control over the secondary market where tickets are being sold for exorbitant prices. It’s the secondary market people should be going after not Ticketmaster… there’s no way to track down the scalper tickets. Scalpers do not release ticket information until people have bought tickets and in a lot of cases people get scammed through those websites. With the Taylor tour, the demand was way too high, so her tour director gave the go ahead to release all the tickets.

You can't stop a secondary site from reselling tickets. Once they own them, they can whatever they want. If Ticketmaster pulls the " not eligible for resale" stamp on all tickets moving forward it would backfire so hard on them. There's really nothing they can do outside of better security measures to stop scalpers from getting in so easily. 

 

Problem with that is customers will complain about the hoops they have get to get tickets...even more than they are now.

What if you get sick the week of, or have an important appointment and can't go? Everyone should be free to resell their ticket.

Sure but the situation you're describing is about 1% of what the resale market actually is, the overwhelming majority are scalpers who use shady tactics to mass buy tickets to then resell them at like 3x the original price. And Ticketmaster is known to encourage and facilitate this because they receive a fee from both sales.
