Why is is group so overlooked? Why aren't they smashing?

The have wonderful voice tones, powerful vocals, they ******* know how to sing AND their EP is full of strong hooks & Top40-ready melodies. 

Their sound is also very rich, MNEK slayed on these songs.

The same reason the Tinashe is not smashing.

 

Not everyone is so lucky to reach mainstream breakout. 

I feel like they're not promoting the right songs. Summertime deserved more promo and a proper MV imo

No literally. Seems like they have it all but even as a R&B fan they’re just…. There. Idk how to explain it. 
 

at least with T, her productions are very top notch for the most part. FLO’s EP is very good, it just sounds too familiar i feel. Or too nostalgic but not in a groundbreaking/mainstream type of way I guess

Well yeah!

 

I meant it more in a way that not everyone can be huge and successful in this industry, a lot of luck is involved.

Same with Not My Job. It’s like it gave a bit but it’s just cute at most. Summertime was the smash that got away. Sad CB hasn’t really taken off

i listened to the single they were promoting and it didn’t do anything for me. maybe i should listen to the rest. 

 

they seem to have a strong fanbase already tho, no? their tour sold out in seconds and people were begging for extra dates. 

FLO's image & persona feels inorganic in a way I can't explain. Their sound is very 00s R&B, to the point where it feels a bit contrived and too copy/paste of past girl groups of that era like Total and En Vogue, it comes across like they're a tribute act to that era without possessing a specific identity and sound of their own to set them apart, just a carefully curated one created by their label head.

 

I do like their EP but they give industry plant vibes. Like you can just tell a group of men in their 50s in suits & ties put them together to appeal to Gen Z and the y2k 00s revival that's been happening in music, fashion, etc. It gives very manufactured, from their 00s y2k fashion, MVs, live performances, music, all of it feels very orchestrated and not in a good way, but in an inauthentic way.

1. Material is too much 00s Cheetah Girl rejects, instead of a new fresh sound.

2. The West is over girl groups. They’re pointless when everyone knows they will break up in ~7 years and only one of them will end up lucky enough to be a star. 

I don’t get why they’re not smashing either. Their music is literally 10/10s

 

I also fear that they’re not gonna end up happening. Cardboard Box went as viral on TikTok as Cuff It, Made You Look, Unholy…etc. but there was barely any translation over to Streaming/Buying the song

why would anyone expect one of those thousands of 2000s cosplayers to smash

They're not Little Mix.

 

 

yall forget it's actually difficult to launch a western group, not just girl group, and see results these days.

i thought cardboard box was a hit cause of this and i’m only just now finding out it wasn’t

Not every artist/group is supposed to smash or reach the mainstream from the get go, their time might come, or not, but it’s too early to say.

Patience. 

Cuz no one has wrote them a hit yet

their songs so far are too good for GP and choreo isnt friendly for tiktok in general. if they dumb down their sound a bit to tik tok baited then thats the way.

Willing them a win and it’s still possible. But I see why it’s happening more slowly with them. And it’s ironically because they are going too fast.

 

I put this on their team, but also understand the issues they face.

 

They have tangible buzz, but they’ve not charted a single song. That includes Cardboard Box, which it feels like everyone “knows”.

 

Their team is getting them big looks, Apple Next Up, Kimmel, Jools Holland, Soul Train and more. Which makes sense to a degree, because who turns down those big opps?

 

BUT…

 

I don’t feel they (their team) have even covered the basics. Do the masses even know their individual names? Do they do lots of interviews? (No). Are their a million performances online? No.

 

its like they are being fast-tracked, whereas the public is moving at a more real-life pace of receiving them. It all needs to level out before it’s too late. In that they need to do as much grassroots stuff as well as the big stuff to feed both their organic buzz while also seizing the big opps put in front of them too.

Very few artists smash out of the gate nowadays. They're building ground and developing their artistry. The talent is there and the music is good (even if they lean a little too much into that Darkchild-era R&B aesthetic), and that's what matters.
