Irene Cara, best known for singing the title tracks of the classic 1980s films Fame and Flashdance, has died at the age of 63.

The news was confirmed by her publicist Judith A. Moose on Twitter, who revealed that Cara died at her Florida home. The cause of death is currently unknown and will be released “when information is available”. A memorial for fans is set to be held in due course.

R.I.P I  was thinking about her the other day. Fame and What a Feeling are classics.

This woman and her legacy is extremely underrated.

Ms. Cara is an Oscar winner, a Golden Globe Winner (Best Original Song) and a Multi-Grammy Award Winner. The fact that she has “FAME, Flashdance and Sparkle” to her resume (all classics) is astounding.

Her peak circa. 1980-1985 was quite incredible and she was one of the few solo Black female artists to have the reputation she did in both Hollywood and the Music Industry, especially at that point where Donna Summer and Diana Ross were the formidable Black female Pop stars (Whitney Houston hasn’t debuted yet, Tina Turner was just having her comeback and Janet Jackson wouldn’t breakout for a few more years).

R.I.P Queen.
