They ended themselves with their previous album which was horrible and alienated a huge part of their fanbase. The fact that this one sold more in the first week (in the UK) is actually suprising but it could also be more frontloaded.

It's proven with a very big release all the new release that week can get an extra attention. Maybe because more people open spotify that day and look to the new releases or people get more attention on how the charts are going etc.

This. AM was the perfect direction from them, it wasn’t as spunky and youthful as their previous releases but it made sense since they were not teens/early twenty something’s anymore, yet somehow they skipped all the way to the retirement home with these last two albums.

Ended? Didn't they have their biggest opening week yet?  this is why everyone hates us swifties
