Excuse me? Artpop is not as good as Chromatica (though IMO Chromatica does deserve a score in the 8's).  Slay at BTW being at 7.9 though.

Retrospective praise my ass, this album was always a mess and a half. It's ok to call a spade a spade. ASIB Soundtrack and Chromatica are eons better so she recovered. No need to pretend this crap was anything but an overproduced, ugly sounding mess.

Are they just now reviewing this? The fact that ASIB is in the middle just says how little these scores and stuff mean, seriously ASIB is better than anything anyone has released probably in years. Real music, original music, real instruments. ARTPOP isn’t bad though just remove a few songs and it’s solid.

Even through a retrospective poptism lens, the album is still dusty. I’m sure there is a cult audience for it like everything else.

If ARTPOP is a 7.3 then Chromatica should've been an 7.9/8.0 AT LEAST. I don't get it

P4k used to be very pretentious and refuse to review pop albums unless your name was Rihanna for some reason, they didn't review Born This Way and even 21 at the time. Then Conde Nast (US publishing giant) bought them and they've become much more mainstream in their tastes. Probably because big stars will refuse to cover Vogue (also owned by Conde Nast) if P4K trashes them. P4K is also notoriously horrible to work for and all their writers get paid garbage despite living in NYC and treated like garbage, and they're all super pretentious hipster types living in 25 sq ft in Brooklyn with tons of college debt but act like they're the cream of the crop because they get to say they work for P4K. Don't ask me how I know. I left the 'rock crit' world a long time ago for corporate land and I'd rather get paid real money than put up with those douchebags.

dope was her most acclaimed ballad for a bit. we been knew it was a bop tho 

 

that being said pitchfork giving everything 7.X is getting a bit boring tbh

I've always liked ARTPOP but it has its flaws, I'd maybe have given it a 7.0-7.2.  It doesn't feel accurate that it has the same score as Chromatica and only 0.1 below ASIB.

Loved their writeup! People always act like Gaga was fully insane for thinking she did anything with this album but the way she (kinda unintentionally) made full-blown trauma art and played with ideas of performance and artifice really is commendable. What she was doing conceptually is genuinely unlike anything another mpg has done.

If TFM had a retrospective review i'm pretty sure they would give it since it had a 7.8 when they used to be pretty harsh on pop albums. Thinking about 8.2-8.4 or else
