Her lighter tone has a different appeal, but I wouldn’t say it’s better or worse. Sounds really good here though:

I'm obsessed. 

Yes in that it's something a bit different from her, but I also love her lower, grovelling tone in ALL UP IN YOUR MIND.

 

This album is just so great vocally because she gives us so many textures and deliveries from more outright loud/slightly belted stuff in CUFF IT or CHURCH GIRL to soft coos like the chorus of ALIEN SUPERSTAR to harmonic greatness in VIRGO'S GROOVE to soaring vocals in SUMMER RENAISSANCE to soulful ones in BREAK MY SOUL, etc. etc.

Yup I hear it and it does not sound distorted. I think she can naturally mimick that lighter tone. 

Is she really able to sing that part like that? I thought they pitched it higher or something like that

This. I think her best vocals for this album is in Virgo's Groove. She did every vocal greatness.

In this one specifically it sounds very raw to me. In the THIQUE part specifically though I do think some type of effect was lightly used, aside from the fact that it sounds like it was layered up too but it’s hard to say without a really good quality audio to hear the isolated vocal

I love when female artists use that girly/sweet vocal tone in general. 

I think part of the vocal is pitched up, but she is generally using a lighter tone. I think her voice is really well rested from the pandemic so she’s more comfortable in her higher range again. 

That part always sounded like Rihanna to me
