I was excited for the album after loving EoM, but literally have not streamed the album since release month and it seems the GP is following suit now that a 10 year old Lana del Rey album is outstreaming it. The album just wasn't that good, but why did the critics collectively say YES when the music was kind of bad? Did the checks come through? Skinny privilege?

Definitely one of the most prominent and obvious cases of ridiculous / unwarranted acclaim in recent memory. The album is easily her worst.

It's a decent album. Critics overrate anything nowadays. Half of them give 100 to literally every release. 

Critics eat up anything Adele releases, and most of 30 is arguably deserving of that score, but it should have like a 55 just for the atrocities that are Oh My God, Can I Get It and Cry Your Heart Out. 

30 is incredibly personal and can be heavy to listen to a lot.  For example, My Little Love is definitely one of the best Adele songs but it's so emotional it can be hard to listen to at times.  Plus, the 6 minute songs aren't friendly to a lot of the streaming audience.

Can I Get It is so horrendous  

It is Adele's best album

“30” is a great album, overall, filled with great songs. 
 

It’s emotive, sentimental and deeply personal. 

 

This entire forum can try and make both Adele and this current era to be a laughing stock all it wants but the album is still acclaimed and will still be seeing multiple nominations at the Grammy’s next year with high chances of her winning, at least, two in the general field categories. 
 

Overall, the album is still a success and has yet to be surpassed, since it’s release, in several areas and most likely won’t be a for a while.

i do think many releases nowadays have senseless high scores and i mean MANY releases do

but i also do think 30 is a good album, id personally give it a 75-80

Well I like Adele but 30 is definitely NOT her best album. Obviously taste is subjective but I’m clearly not alone in that standpoint.

 

I meant it generally and it may not be true of all critics but it definitely applies to many of them. Groupthink is a psychological phenomenon that exists and is why it’s ridiculous to put too much weight on any critical consensus. The way a review is going to be perceived undeniably factors into the way critics write about music. I mean imagine a critic waxing philosophical about how deeply meaningful Jack Harlow’s music is in the way they do about Beyoncé. They won’t because they’ll be laughed at, even though both artists make relatively generic and safe pop music at the end of the day

It's a masterpiece.
