Is P!nk underrated?

Featured Replies

P!nk is barely talked about here on Atrl, despite a very lengthy career with impressive accomplishments

1. She's been successful across three different musical eras, with huge longevity

P!nk debuted in 2000, the year when CD sales reached their all-time peak. She was a big CD seller with Missundaztood selling over 10 million copies WW. Albums like Funhouse and The Truth About Love were also extremely successful at a time when CD sales were declining. She had some huge digital hit songs like So What and Raise Your Glass. And even her streaming numbers are quite impressive, despite the fact that she rarely released in the streaming era. JGMAR is closing in on 1 billion streams. The Beautiful Trauma Tour is the second-highest grossing female tour of all time, grossing an average of USD 2.5 million per show, people clearly are willing to shell out serious coin to see her live.

2. She is versatile and has some real classic bops across multiple genres

P!nk has experimented a lot across genres and created some real classic. While her (label-forced) R&B roots are a bit cringy today, she was as successful with ballads (JGMAR, Fuckin' Perfect) as she was in EDM (What About Us), Adult Contemporary Music (Cover Me in Sunshine), and Kelly Clarkson style soft rock (Who Knew, So What, Raise Your Glass, U + Ur Hand).

3. She's an unproblematic ally and not afraid to drag conservative *******

P!nk has played with gender presentation since the beginning of her career. While not exactly groundbreaking for a musical artist in the 00s, P!nk has been an LGBT ally early on. She released Dear Mr. President, an anti-Bush song, in 2005 when the Dixie Chicks were completely cancelled for speaking out against him and Hillary Duff was still making promo videos for the Iraq War. Recently she lashed out against conservatives following the cancellation of Roe v. Wade. Don't tell me this drag is not iconic.

In addition she's been married to the same guy for 16 years, which is an eternity in celebrity years, and has stayed mostly scandal-free and out of the tabloids, letting her music speak for itself.

4. She's undeniably talented

P!nk is heavily involved in writing her songs, and an extremely good performer. Some people make fun of her for often doing the same aerial acrobatics in her performance, but can your fave pull off something like that even once? She's a great (if underappreciated) vocalist who can pull off any genre and sing live while doing crazy stuff on stage. Her ad-libs on songs like Raise Your Glass are fantastic and convincing. Honestly I think she has the best ad-libs out of any pop girl.

So ATRL, why does it seem like P!nk doesn't get her fair due? Do you agree that she is underrated?

Severely, she's definetely one of the biggest and most important acts this century.

she's a huge artist so def not underrated but her discography is amazing and I agree that she deserves more recognition for her impact

No. She’s not an underdog, this is just a way to sell her public image… it always has been. This is just strategy, she’s a huge artist and “is rated” the right amount, not overrated nor underrated.

Xtina's poor man's Stripped (a PANNED album btw) wouldn't exist without P!nk's M!ssunderstood album (an acclaimed and bigger album)

Yes! Eventually is her best song!

Fingers is my guilty pleasure!

She for sure is underrated

but I do agree that she became reaaally safe after the early 00s, constantly working with Max..

however, she still got the most longevity out of her peers imo

About the unproblematicness..she had her moments one time

but yea, she tries to do the right thing now (and overall, but that's what kind of made her problematic on some occasions)

Underrated among stan Twitter gheyz =\= reality

Very underrated because her fanbase is not the forum stan type. Imagine if her peers like Britney or Xtina recently scored a $400M tour like she did.

What About Us is not EDM, but yes, she‘s an icon who played it safe and that’s why she isn’t a legend, sadly. Amazing singles discography.

Yes!

Wild Hearts Can’t Be Broken should’ve been a 25 week #1

You could also say the same thing about Metallica. Iconic hits, longevity, impact, talent, huge touring numbers, etc. Yet no one here talks about them. It's not that they're underrated though, it's just that they don't reach ATRL's demographic. Same with P!nk.

If this forum was full of 40+ year old women from Australia, P!nk would be the Taylor Swift of ATRL.

P!nk is amazing! I know it's been a while since she's put out music, but with the right song, I think she could easily smash again. The GP is really into her

She gets what she deserves in Oceania and Europe. It's only in the rest of the world where she deserves better, she's one of the most talented artists out there but the GP seems to be interested in mediocre acts.

These two again... :rip:

OT: Yes, she is very underrated. Even after all the success, the hits and the acclaim, she is still not recognized for what she has offered to the pop scene.

This + she minds her business :cm:

The fact that P!nk ended up having a bigger career than Xtina, bigger tours, bigger career sales, bigger views, bigger streams and longevity.
