More than 4 years after her first single, Kim managed to score her biggest song (Coconuts) from TikTok. Currently she is stuck in album purgatory but is scheduled to release her official label-backed debut album this year.

 

Do you think she can score a hit? Will the GP support her like they do with other Dr.-Luke-backed artists? (ie. Doja Cat, Latto, Pitbull, etc.) If not, why do you think so?

Personally I don’t see her going far beyond being a niche act with a solid gay following. 

I would love to be wrong, but at this point I don’t know that she does. She’s been putting out music for years now and while she’s had a couple of moderate successes, she’d have to put out something truly amazing to get any bigger than she is.

No, she used to with her first era, she felt fresh and unapologetically bubblegum pop. She put herself in the "niche popper white gay" box with Sl*t Pop and erased her chances of ever making it big. Now she belongs in the Slayyyter trashcan.

Kim is going to be what will see of most artist over the next decade. The age of main pop boy and main pop girl are going to come to end. Just a bunch of niche artist. I see it already with the streaming and SoundCloud.

She needs to put in the work if she wants a chance, her lazy ass just sitting at home right now. And we will support her but the music has to be good. 

She kicked the ladder down behind her unfortunately and ironically now there’s plenty of other trans artists who aren’t associated with or enabling an alleged rapist that have gone much further into the mainstream. I loved her when she started out but at a certain point she just lost me and became a bit too generic/inauthentic and ironically is stuck in label hell despite that so... 
 

That said, if she decides to change her tune on Dr Luke and demonstrate some integrity I will line up and get my Stan card again. 1,2,3 Days Up is life giving. 

i loved her old music but unfortunately she never had any mainstream potential. the world will not be ready for a mainstream trans artist for years, possibly decades. i mean there have literally only been like a handful of out cis gay mainstream pop stars and gay rights/acceptance are decades ahead of trans rights/acceptance.

Nope because the world isnt ready for a trans artist. Twitter, atrl arent real life. Most of the world hates trans people and that will always work against her even if shes brilliant

That being said - she's performed at the EMAs, VMAs and Coachella in the past year. That's not exactly "niche."   She's never gonna be a MPG though if that's what this thread is asking, but she has a cult following and most gays vaguely in tune with pop culture know who she is. That's enough to sustain a long career really.

i never felt like kim was more than a SMALL niche act and i still dont feel like she will ever grow too much to prove me wrong

even if she does release a song that starts to become a hit, people will cancel her before she can even think of charting
