having 5 number 1s in an album then followed  by an era with 2 gigantic hits then there's Witness abruptly

Katy for sure even tho it was obvious with Rise that she was about to take a massive fall 

Definitely Katy. I’d also say Xtina but I’m not sure if she’s considered a MPG(?)

Katy is the right answer. 

 

But Miley on Younger Now is something to take a look at too…  she had the free Dead Petz album in between and the well received Plastic Hearts after, but Younger Now was such a giant flop for her stats, 7 weeks charting on top 200… this album doesnt even  feel real for me i try to pretend it never happened.

Definitely Katy to me.

 

She was still an undeniable force with PRISM and got the biggest hit of her career, her biggest tour, did the SuperBowl, etc. Her celeb status was also much bigger than it was in the TD era. Rise not smashing wasn't very indicative imo because it wasn't a lead single but CTTR fighting for its dear life to reach Top 5 on iTunes was a huge shocker, then the album and entire era being a mess up until Smile charting for only 4 weeks. It was obvious that she would decline someday, especially since she doesn't have a strong fanbase but it all happened very quickly. The GP literally served:

 

 

At least she bagged a lot of hits during her prime era so she will always have that though.

Paula Abdul had a steeper decline than Katy 

Katy and Xtina. They had been doing so well for three albums, and then their careers imploded with the fourth album. Xtina is more shocking IMO because after Back to Basics she should’ve had a stronger fanbase and more respect, she should’ve had a Beyonce-like trajectory where she went for art not charts and still managed to be successful. The talent was there. But she fumbled it badly by trying to do the electro pop bad chick thing.

Lady Gaga had the fastest decline and Xtina had the biggest decline.

Katy’s decline still confuses me to this day. 3 back to back smash eras only to have an unprecedented decline. Witness should’ve been successful based on hype alone. 
 

Katy and xtina imo both confuse me a lot to this day why decline so much and fast. Although xtina is more predictable since she took too long breaks and had a reputation for being terrible person for years. 
 

miley is understandable she alienated her entire original fanbase with bangerz and dead pets anyone with a brain saw it coming. 

Definetly Katy Perry. Its the only right answer. The biggest decline by a pop act in history 

did anyone really expect Katy to have a long career? it was pretty clear from the beginning that she was nothing more than this generation's hitmaker

 

of course when she tried to make "purposeful" pop it always going to fail because she was never taken serious to begin with

The answer is probably Paula or Kelly Clarkson. Paula never came back and Kelly did but Breakaway to MD was a bigger and quicker decline than any other girl. Katy is next. 

 

Those are the right answers. Christina didn’t flop till 11 years into her career…lol. 
 

Gaga fell off pretty fast too but has paved her way in a different lane now.

In retrospect, Katy's decline isn't all that shocking. She peaked in the early 2010's, a time when pop music produced by the likes of Dr. Luke and Max Martin dominated the Hot 100. She dominated US radio, but was never really an album seller. She didn't have the mania around her that Gaga had, she didn't have the celebrity and tabloid attention of Rihanna and she wasn't anywhere near as adaptable or versatile as either of the two.

 

Katy's peak resembles that of Paula Abdul's in the late 80's and early 90's. A dance diva who rose to prominence at a time when dance music dominated the mainstream and once that wave left, her career went downhill.

 

I was in HS from 2010-2014, Katy's peak, and despite her ubiquity on radio, I don't remember anyone ever actually talking about her. I don't remember her fans despite us being teenagers (her demographic). I just remember the radio playing her over and over again and seeing her at award shows and other appearances. She was rarely, if ever a part of the cultural conversation.

 

Katy has had a more successful career than most would ever hope for, but her downfall always seemed inevitable.
