"Thinking of You" was a solo-written ballad by Katy, and became the only single to miss top 10 from "One of the Boys", peaking at #29.

 

"Wide Awake" & "The One That Got Away" were the only Teenage Dream singles to miss #1 (The One That Got Away won in the end though becoming the most streamed Teenage Dream single on Spotify). Now in the USA they were still successful but globally, they weren't as successful compared to the other Teenage Dream singles.

 

Unconditionally - Katy said it would be a wedding classic. Despite "Dark Horse" overtaking it on iTunes for weeks, Katy tried to ignore it. Her label even had to put out a statement "Katy is well aware of the success "Dark Horse" is having, however she'd like "Unconditionally" to have a full chart run" but the GP said no. After 10 consecutive top 10 singles spanning from "Waking Up In Vegas" to "Roar", Unconditionally became her first song to miss the top 10 peaking at #14. 

 

 

 

 

 

All of them except for TOY were successful and especially TOTGA and Uncle have been pulling good stats lately. You tried it

Not saying they weren't successful but they were less successful than the other singles from their respective albums

2 top 5 ballads are far from the gp not being there for Katy's ballads.

And the other two being top 20 and 30 are nothing to be ashamed about either like  

Those ballads were when GP wanted sl*tty pop bops from her. She should’ve then tried a proper ballad went witness happened, to evolve/transition. It’s the same as Kesha/Gaga, they didn’t start out with releasing Praying and MR. Gaga would put a ballad on her early albums setting the foundations. 

She's never been taken serious as an artist so

Wide Awake, TOTGA and even Unconditionally were more successful that MR and Praying.

godddd all of these are some of her best songs! Unconditionally is so stunning and deserves so much better  Wide Awake defined a summer for me, love that one too

I am tired of the hate on Katy and she certainly gets a bad rap around here, she has a very impressive career and I wish her the best of luck in future endeavors.

USA really did Wide Awake wrong, it deserved that #1 spot 

I like a lot of her ballads but I think the GP didn't look at her as someone who could deliver a ballad the same way she delivered bops.

She has some of the BEST ballads out there.

She has plenty of talent, she has improved tremendously over the years.

Her voice lacks emotion and power. When she tries to hit high notes it sounds strained and forced

Unconditionally is currently her third most popular track on Spotify. 

They did well but like most pop girls people tend to flock to the uptempos of the albums.

I think it just wasn't the music people wanted from Katy at the time. Other pop stars have also struggled with ballads. Million Reasons became a hit eventually but Gaga promoted it a lot to get it there, even Shallow took a while to peak. TOTGA is one of her biggest hits now.
