Also, I’m really glad Normani did not drop last week. The gun issues in the US would have really made it insensitive to drop a song like that. There won’t be a perfect week to release but a week like that is NOT IT. 

 

It’s just one of those weeks where politics, debates, and *breaking news* dominate everything going on. 

 

Even then, I think Normani has up to the end of the second week of June to start doing *something* release wise before most fans lose it.

As a result, Spotify’s Secret Genius program wanted to curate an environment where Normani could work with her dream songwriters and producers and create something she’s proud of. Secret Genius, which aims to highlight the contribution these writers and production team members make to the music industry and artists’ careers, teamed up with her label, Keep Cool/RCA Records and her management, S10 — and the Secret Genius Songshop was born.   

 

The three-day workshop in Los Angeles featured four studios with a diverse set of producers and songwriters in each room. Yo Pierre, London on the Track, J White and Jude Demorest were among the “geniuses” there. Normani’s whole team and some friends were present, as well as some of her favorite foods lining a buffet table to build the most comfortable music atmosphere. 

 

“Normani’s team sent over a playlist of songs that inspire her, and at that point, I knew we had to partner with her and Keep Cool for a Secret Genius Songshop to make her new music come to life,” she said.

 

On this playlist of inspirations, shared below exclusively with Billboard, old-school Beyoncé, Mya, Lauryn Hill and Aaliyah blend with Rihanna and H.E.R. to paint a picture of a ’90s R&B dream with a modern twist. Of course, Normani’s sultry collaboration with Khalid, “Love Lies,” tops the list.

 

“I just want to take it back to the music I fell in love with, and what made me fall in love with music for the first time,” Normani said of the playlist. “I grew up with my grandmother driving me to school and my mother listening to ’90s music.”

 

There’s even a hint of New Orleans jazz (“Crack House” by New Birth Brass Band) as a nod to the singer’s hometown. “We have so much culture we have and we have so much to offer,” she said. “I’m grateful being from there and I just want to incorporate that in the music. It’s authentic to who I am.”
 

Normani definitely recognizes the difficulty and pressure that comes along with pulling inspiration from the past, but she’s more than ready. “Sometimes it can be scary and it’s like, ‘Will it work?’ It’s the risk I’m willing to take because I believe in it so much.

“I’m fearless,” she added. “I have a very clear vision of what I want this body of work to sound like and it’s just about execution. I don’t care how long it takes, because that first impression is the last.”

I wonder what happened to the confidence and clarity of vision she used to express in articles like these  

 

We know she's so tough on herself now, but it really doesn't seem like she was always that way if you go back in the archives. Who and what got in her way?

 

We'll probably never know, but I'm curious to see how much of the album we're going to get will actually represent what she was talking about here

 

If it's evolved, I hope it's truly aligned with the vision she has for music

I don’t really believe these blind items stuff since they seem more like guesses but this one for Normani kind of makes you think about her current situation … (not the stage one though, I don’t think that’s true at all)

Really bad stage fright is what makes this nothing more than a made up story.

The base is alive! I’m really excited about this release, hopefully it comes by the 17th or even 30th.

The only person it could actually fit is Dinah. Otherwise, it sounds fake. Ally enjoyed her tour and does shows all the time. Lauren performs all the time everywhere. Dinah is the only one who hasn’t been on an extensive tour or done events/festivals, only pop up shows.

 

Normani did a whole tour with THE Ariana Grande at/around her peak. Sold out crowds almost every night. It just wouldn’t make sense for this to be Normani.

I feel like she’s been treating her debut album as if it’s the only album she’s gonna make  always “you only get one debut album” but like…GIRL do something!

If she doesnt release in my birthday month ima throw a fit. And if the rumors of her needing a break is true ima unstan. U dont release one song a year for 4 years and need a break with barely any live peformances. Esp when After her debut its best to start the next era by the time the last single ends/runs its course and pull a rihanna with 3 back to back albums singles after singles then take a 2-3 year break when she hits 30 years old.

She really is making twitter lose it, posting about her vacation lol. Makes me think 2 things:

1) She is really offline and not seeing the meltdowns

2) Video has been shot and is ready to go. Because there's no way she'd post this if it's not locked and loaded ?

Sean Bankhead joked on Twitter last year I think that Mani and Lil Nas X trend on Twitter all the time even though they’re offline a lot. On the other hand, she’s admitted to lurking without liking, retweeting anything etc. So I actually think she’s aware of *some* of what her fans are saying. It’s just not known to what extent tbh.
