I'm sure she will go lead but because she's actually co-leading with Phoenix, even assuming she has less screen time than him she will go lead anyway, the movie title still references two main characters.

No you have to, or they won't have the budget

Warner spent +200M dollars for the movie already (when the first costed only 50) and it can potentially be the best outgrossing movie of the year, y'all really think they won't spend money on the promo to make it an event especially with a superstar of the caliber of Gaga involved, be serious, this will have 'Barbie' level of promo.

I don't know a lot about how these things work but it seems wild to me that a movie of the stature of Joker would be affected in the slightest by Gaga releasing pop music at the same time. To think WB executives would even think about that as a driving vehicle for promotion for the sequel of a movie that grossed 1B+ seems laughable to me. The opposite? Maybe, yeah, I can see LG7 benefiting a little from the exposure J:FAD will bring with it. But even so it's to a limited extent - it might give it some extra exposure but ultimately the music has to connect on it's own. Even if these projects are released in similar timeframes they both have to stand on their own.

WB was slamming Barbie down our throats last year. I'm low key kind of surprised they aren't already pushing JFAD. Maybe after Venice it'll start the roll out.

If that leak from reddit is true we'll get premiere after premiere after premiere leading up to the movie. Didn't Barbie come sooner than J:FAD is coming this year?

Barbie was released July 21 of last year yeah

Barbie came out July 2023 but they were really pushing it since early 2023. There was a lot of merch, dolls, promotion... etc.

different categories depending on the budgets

are they adding more films at New York Film Festival? cause i believe the line-up was already announced and JFAD is nowhere to be seen 

I remember the 2019 Oscars  Liddos expecting Glenn to win till we saw that damn golden dress  and when Sam and Frances said Olivia won  Gaga's face because she was expecting Glenn to win too

I mean it's a movie based on the most popular toy, of course with Mattel involved in the project they released items based on the movie, but it was Robbie red carpet moments and outfits that made more noise promo wise.

I was also confused then I came across this on twitter

 

This doesn't necessary mean much, but WB have been losing money with DC movies back to back especially The Flash last year was disaster for them. 

 

Furiosa also bombed for them this year.

 

So they might be conservative with marketing budget.

Vastly different cases and audiences. Joker is already an established franchise and that comes with high levels of name recognition. They were starting from scratch with Barbie. Also, lighthearted PG/PG-13 family affair tentpoles like Barbie and Wicked naturally lend themselves to more creative brand collab opportunities as opposed to serious drama awards contenders like Joker.

 

WB's current priority is Beetlejuice 2 so things will likely remain simmering on the promo front until then with an occasional interview soundbite here and there. A splashy Venice red carpet combined with positive critical reception will be enough for a strong campaign kickoff.
