The movie was a smashed and continues to be a favorite among women of millennial age and the song, if I recall correctly, is really the only song performed in full on stage in the movie outside Shallow that doesn’t serve some direct narrative purpose like I’ll Never Love Again or La Vie En Rose.

I also thought of that…that these are the songs that are performed fully. But that does not explain the other songs not doing well like INLA, LVER. INLA should have performed better considering it has ending credit impact.

Because it’s also arguably the most emotive performance in the entire film the way the camera remains on Gaga throughout without cutting; said performance also comes not long after Shallow in the first half of the movie when people were still on that high of wanting more of that sound from Gaga / Ally; the song is piano based and has a classic, timeless sound that transcended the trappings of usual soundtrack fare that INLA plays more into as a more direct IWALY descendant. It works the tear ducts for the movie but isn’t something audiences were clamouring to listen to again afterwards in the same way.

Gaga’s team and Warner Bros really thought INLA would be the biggest hit from the soundtrack. The way they sent it to a few radio stations and put 2 versions of this on the album. To be fair, it was the big closing song for the movie and sounded similar to other hit soundtrack songs aka I Will Always Love You. 
They seemed shocked that Shallow was the song that took off. Like Bradley says in the movie, it sounds like a rough demo. But people ate up the rawness of Shallow. 
The ballads of ASIB are really some of Gaga’s best work

The way literally everyone was initially fuming that they weren't pushing INLA when it would've been the least successful out of the main 3 songs. 

Yeah I was one of the people who thought INLA was gonna be THE one before we got the movie. Many fans and critics were describing it as a big Whitney-esque moment so I thought Shallah was doomed.  I still love it but it's too 90s power ballad pastiche.

Sometimes I wish they submitted ARUTW for visual media song instead of INLA so it would’ve been a Grammy winning song (since it lost SOTY) but then again what ended up happening gave ASIB three nominated songs instead of two
