It can hurt her also in the nominations process, since the acting branch will be still aware that she has 2 Oscars so in the preferential ballot they could give priority to other people that maybe in their optic need it more, thing I think has already partially happened this year when Gaga missed for HOG since she was perceived other than somebody with the popular role also as recent winner.

However it all depends from the race that year, if it's weak or if they're gonna be a lot of strong competition and how JFAD will be received, her performance in first, there are too many factors to keep in mind, it's tricky.

 

One thing is sure, after what happened this year with Gaga breaking 2 stats for her snub, no Oscar nomination is sure for her until is announced, and in my opinion it will be for the best her not having any credits on music when it comes to JFAD.

Regardless, WB/DC absolutely wouldn't have greenlit an arthouse psycho-musical unless they knew exactly what was going on with the musical aspects. including at least a few polished demos if they were doing original music. I agree I have the strong sensation that it's gonna be covers of classics re-arranged or a mix of iconic songs (like in 'Mouline Rouge').

i think new original music for this would be too complicated to execute, since already making it a musical is a risky move, original music would complicate things already, on the other hands inserting musical scenes with songs the people are already familiar and that works for musical scenes sound like a better solution especially if they insert some iconic badass songs.

i was stating what songs she’d even be doing during the “musical aspects” of J:FAD, unless she’s gonna be singing some jazz covers at some gay drag bar again then obv a original interpretation makes the most sense. it may not automatically equate to new music but its already heavily implied by thought we’ll get something new.

i mean you had Colman who also recently infamously pulled up the BA upset win, doesn’t hurt the fact that she’s been an favorite amongst the actors, still w back to back noms 3 years in a row.

 

Ga missed HOG b/c we underestimated how much the Academy hated the film given the sole pity makeup nom, not even getting in Costumes & Design, plus she was presumed a shoe in given the fact she’d hit every pre-cursor, thus pity votes thrown elsewhere and the fact Stewart & Cruz heavily campaigned behind the scenes throughout even after their SAG & BAFTA misses while Ga’s campaign was beginning to be frown upon w all those bizarre quotes/memes during her Gucci interviews

I do wonder if all of the music in JFAD will be jazz covers, so then she could possibly get a nom for score if she is involved with that, but no nom for BOS, which would make it easier to get into BA

This is exactly what I expect to happen but moreso covers of period-adjacent Broadway stuff. She could work on the music for the film in some capacity while not having it affect her BA chances as much, since Hildur Guðnadóttir would be the "face" for the score campaign.

Colman is still a niche British actress who is undeniably talented with decades of career, her popularity is new but she feels like a veteran due to her age and experience whereas Gaga is a superstar coming from another field at her first movies and there still is some kind of bias.

 

I mean see Chastain or Kidman that still manage to get nominated and the first even win with a movie rated in similar way of HOG, with the difference both have been flops at the box office while Gaga managed to make HOG a box office hit for an adult drama in the middle of the Omicron resurgence, any other professional actress in Gaga situation (precursors+box office) would have never miss in this year specific race.

 

However I don't doubt with the rest you said, they're things I often repeated as well but in my opinion it's still better be cautious and not take for granted her possible Oscar nominations or wins.

 

 

Not talks about LG7  We will be lucky to even get that in 2025.

Nominations wise it would be a better scenario, but at the end it would be the same of having a BOS credit, the Academy can still reward her there, imo it's better not having any kind of musical credits and having the Academy focusing on BA alone.
