super interesting how the song came together. There were several iterations of it, including a bigger vocal throughout. I'd love to hear the full demo with the notes held out and bigger in the chorus.

This is super interesting! I'd also love a fuller version with the backing vocals

Kelly should try releasing a vocal demo as the official studio version at some point. If there's an artist that could pull that off today, it's her.

Didn't Taylor release voice note versions of her songs too to boost her chart positions last album

I think they just uploaded the video a second time to her YouTube channel? Probably because it seems like the first one isn't monetized (have yet to see an ad on it).

Not that Kelly's in a place where YouTube streams matter, but it looks messy. Obviously another growing pain of this indie era. Hopefully they're learning a lot. haha

ROCKELLY! The sex appeal chile! She looks and sounds better than ever before. She's not in the pop game anymore, she's way above it. She's giving Stevie Nicks vibes. It's sultry, sexy, bluesy and blending into old school rock. It's a record to put on in the background as you pour yourself a stiff drink. It's a song that shows you've lived and loved in life. I absolutely love the fact that she released something grown up and mature, and not a song that is trying to chase radio play or shallow relevancy. She's a woman of another caliber, paving her own path forward, finally in the sunlight of complete freedom and independence both professionally and independently. Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, but if you don't see the shine in this release, then you should probably stick with your pop girl chart-chasing releases. This is different and extraordinary, and should be celebrated. Much like Kelly speaks of this release, she is a rare unicorn in todays feeble music landscape. She broadens the horizons and pushes the bar, while all the tragic competition are tragically chasing hits, inauthentically walking the same old footsteps or awkwardly singing off key. Let's be honest, none of your faves could ever. Like Gaga (bless her heart, I love her, sold out by putting out Abracadabra which was a massive step backwards because it sounds like something she would release 15 years ago) and P!nk (releasing bland pop-electro-rock or soppy mini-van-mom-ballads no one likes). This is different, it has integrity and broadens the horizons. If you don't like it, well, acquire some taste why don't ya.

Her team is such a mess. Video is reposted on YouTube. Two are there now. Splitting views. They needed to consult experts before doing all this.

I know that I won't be able to sleep tonight knowing that they released two versions of the video. It has a huge effect on the quality of my life. I'm going to focus on minute chart related details instead of enjoying the fact that Kelly is extremely happy to have artistic freedom.

That is... so bizarre :skull: It's gotta be someone on her management that's handling all of this instead of a true label person. Mess.

People are allowed to criticize sloppy decisions for reasons beyond "chart" details. Like, I'm sure Kelly would like for her music to be distributed as professionally as possible. Much smaller indie acts than her can get that stuff right.

Totally agree. This is her first release on her own. It all should have been planned with perfect details and test out prior.

Where Have You Been is the number 1 video on iTunes. May not be a huge deal, but I don't think I've ever seen her video chart on iTunes. I  think this is the first time in a long time that her visuals in the MV have helped propel interest in the song. Well done, Kelly 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Great show today!

Exciting to see her talk about the next song too, meaning there is something on the way, and I guess "Studio Sessions" was clarified a bit.

So, what she's said, although you and I all know doesn't mean is what is to pass:

• new song working on that's pop rock

• unsure whether to do album or standalone - tbh I'd wager she puts out an EP of these songs in the end

• recently said on her show that they're working on Kellyoke vol 2.

tbh if I were her (hi Terri Clark), I would release these standalones while she's finding her feet with the label.

I'd also try everything to get permission to release Your Love cover as the lead or a focus track or single for Kellyoke vol 2. I'd also aim to release Kellyoke vol 2 in the lead up to Christmas as a physical album that people can buy for presents (there's already a brand there) and also have them on sale at her show. Basically encouraging a constant stream of sales. I would even also try and at least get the 2 versions of HTE put on a Kellyoke album (rather than an EP) to help with optics of a first week sales ;)

anyways, I'm carrried away again seeing our girl so good and also loving the song!!

really hope the song gets its moment in the spotlight

Wow it has been a minute since I have seen KC at #1 on iTunes song and video. Or have I ever seen that? Not sure but it's nice to see now. Wish it meant more. :dies:

I hope this song has legs somehow. I appreciate it a lot more now that I've had time to sit with it.

I'm really enjoying the song, she sounds phenomenal (that G5/Bb5 moment???? WHEW) and she looks stunning in the video.  I do wish the production was better, because it feels pretty bare up until the last act (the vocal demo she played in that video and her talking about how it was originally bigger is a little bit of a bummer because I think that's what it needed) but oh well.  Excited for her and excited to hear more!

What was clarified about studio sessions?

Also, I listened to the new fan pod episode where they interviewed Alison, one of Kelly's background singers.  She said she's gonna be doing background vocals in Vegas this summer and it's going to be "different".

Not sure what she said on her show but on the Today show interview she said it's gonna sound as close to the studio as they can make it and they've been working really hard on the sound for the residency

around 6:40

I can't get over how much WHYB has grown on me like wow what a song!

i watched her recent concert on youtube and she sounded really good

but how are these shows different from her last vegas shows?

this 'studio sessions' theme didn't really translate on stage, did it?

i expected this to be way different than it actually was from the descriptions she made
