American Requiem is about racism and an ode to black America  . Them big ideas being the musical genres and other creative art forms coming from black people from country and rock to hyperpop to drill music to something as simple as the Versus battle which no doubt will be appropriated or reproduced in the future by mainstream in another way. "Dem big ideas, They're buried here". (In black America ). Song of Abraham hints at  black Israelites.  The opening lines:

 Nothin' really ends
For things to stay the same, they have to change again

Hello, my old friend
You change your name, but not the ways you play pretend

American Requiem
Them big ideas (Yeah), are buried here (Yeah)

Amen

The closing:

(When I sang the song of Abraham)
(When the angels guide and take my hand)
(Oh, no)
Goodbye to what has been
A pretty house that we never settled in
A funeral for fair-weather friends
I am the one to cleanse me of my Father's sins  (Founding fathers , Abraham)
American Requiem
Them big ideas (Yeah) are buried here (Yeah)
Amen

When will she get the credit for being a black history teacher to the world? I don't see Ph. d/college educated scholars making as much sense or putting the words so poignantly as she does

I think I wanna talk to you more in private, I've had this same sort of deep dive, but its hard to discuss here because honestly a lot of posters are young or just lack the critical thinking skills. This topic comes back on Amen too and is very beautifully addressed in Sweet Honey Buckin as well. This morning, I realized that Riiverdance is also a sort of warning towards "Hangman" (the antagonist of CC) in western form where she essentially is shooting at their feet and using it as a ******* metaphor for dancing/twerking all in one. This is some GENIUS level work and I am absolutely floored. Tyrant is also wrapped in that sort of sex/danger where uses sexual innuendos to THREATEN/BEG the antagonist to share secrets she can use to her own advantage.

I love how shes now fully stepping into her legend status where she isn't even afraid of talking in public anymore. There was an ease about her last night I havent seen in her in forever. She exuded peace and confidence, it was beautiful to watch

Her acceptance speech was so beautiful :heart2: She looked stunning as well.

Stevie did a wonderful job as well. I'm wondering, how does he read from the teleprompter? Or did he memorise it by heart. :duck:

you're so wrong :dies:

but I did also wonder the same thing. it looked like there was an earpiece in his left ear, so they might have been feeding him lines that way.

Question Hour: imagine an alternate reality where there was no pandemic, so Bey released CC first and Renaissance now (as originally planned).

Do you think Renaissance would've benefitted as much from CC like CC is benefitting from the goodwill Bey built up through Renaissance and the tour?

Apparently he gained his sight back years ago after having eye corrective surgery and everyone in Hollywood knows but it's kept secret from the public.

There have been conspiracy theories about it for decades tho so who knows. :rip:

Run the World (gays) is one of my favorites from 4.

I stood next to him at a Jay Z concert. If he's faking it then that man deserves an honorary Oscar 🤯

what is it about Bodyguard that makes me feel sexy like… it's TOO smooth and groovy and it's contagious

the "downside" of the way she's been pushing boundaries since ST is that when a song leans more on the conventional side (Pretty Hurts, Sorry, Sandcastles, Cuff It, II Most Wanted, Levii's Jeans my immediate thoughts), it just kinda... pales in comparison to the rest of the album it's on for me

this isn't to say that any of them other than Sandcastles are BAD by any means, but they're not as exciting. it's still a great non-problem to have though :jonnycat:

That's definitely how I felt about Cuff It and how I feel about Tyrant right now…it has such a unique beginning and then transforms into something great but somewhat generic :coffee:

Just want her to release the d*mn visuals, I'M HUNGGRYYY!!!

So is it time to start thinking of her next Super Bowl setlist or should we wait until Act III? :clown: Because unless there is another contender there, she has to open that performance and every following concert with YA YA
