A single makeup artist engaged for a few hours =/= hundreds of people involved in pre-, principal, and post-production over the course of several months or over a year.

My point was not that it was the same scale, but that the logic should apply in both cases. And in actuality, appearing in hair and makeup you don't like or don't want to be seen in once is a lot different than releasing a film for your comeback album that you are not happy with.

 

 

It's still Beyoncé's name who is attached to the film as a star, writer, producer, director, etc. as well as being the person whose music is soundtracking the film. The amount of people involved does not relate to the extent to which a film MUST be released even if the person who worked the most on it, or at least who will be associated to it far longer and to a greater extent than anyone else is not ready or unsatisfied with releasing it.

re: the visual scrapping discourse — it is legal and common, but that doesn't mean people involved don't care when it happens?

 

if you pour your blood sweat tears into a Beyoncé project only for it to get scrapped, would you go back to work with her when she needs you for Act II or whatever?

 

something like that won't fly. it's like having an unexplained gap in your resumé, yet you did all the work.

If you watched that film and think beyonce told us the same thing she has always said..you are DUMB. And it shows you did not actually listen to what she is saying. This is the most raw and vulnerable she has ever been. Not everything has to be explicitly stated, the scene where she is crying about how messed up the industry is and how she's been through some shi* was so open that i  am shocked she actually left that in there.

 

It was excellent and artful. Its called the RENAISSANCE FILM not a documentary about her entire life. 

What new info did we learn in the film? She gave us a little insight into her knee but it was touched on for 3 minutes. My favorite part of the whole film was when she highlighted the ballroom scene and gave the dancers their shine, would have loved to see more on that and how the album came to fruition. Don't get me wrong, the film was very well put together and I enjoyed it. However it doesn't justify the nearly $30 price tag for the recycled talking points we've heard for years.

The FWT was being worked during 2017, and she probably was going to release it… But then she did Coachella and we don’t know what went on.

 

Maybe she offered FWT to Netflix and they asked for Homecoming cause they felt it was better. Maybe Bey herself got tired of working on FWT because she got caught on working on Coachella/OTRII and felt more excited about that. Maybe she couldn’t execute a visual representation of the tour that felt as impressive as Lemonade and its visual album. It sucks for us, but it kinda makes sense from her pov.

 

I don’t think we’re far away from a new interview and she won’t get to tease any new music (as she usually does) without somebody asking for those visuals.

- she explained why the crew were so visible on stage (which some in the base were confused about)

- we saw how and when they got Kevin Prodigy to do the commentary throughout the show

- we learned that she almost left Diva off the setlist

- we got her talking about her vocal hemorrhage

- we got a glimpse into the DC5 reunion

- we learned about Uncle Johnny + the last dress he made for her

- we saw her come up with the Cuff It acapella intro

- rehearsal footage for River Deep, 1+1, Thique, Break My Soul...

- we learned that she lived out of Cannes for the European leg of the tour (plus more stuff about her kids)

 

there was quite a bit in there. you're not paying $30 for the new information, it's categorically a concert film. it was evident that documentary would add up to 30 minutes or so. 

 

and I'm not saying she wasn't bullshitting at all -- "I love lights, I've always loved lights," "I think about our relation to time" and that one scene where she kept moving her head in a circle for what felt like 5 minutes were of course there to fluff it up. but the less-scripted parts of it were the first sit-down Bey interview we got to see since... Lion King era I think?

it would not be the first video or film to be scrapped in history. whether they come out or not is her decision ultimately. i'm sure anyone who worked on them understands this before hand. sometimes projects are not released. it doesn't mean her reputation will go down the drain. y'all need to just accept that parkwood and the rest of the world have moved on from the visuals

now, let's not state that visuals have been shelved as if it were a fact.

 

but you are right, of course she's not giving up perfection. she's embracing flaws more and seems more free from her own judgment. she's much less uptight this tour, it's evident. 

 

at the same time, her saying "she doesn't give a **** anymore" is paradoxical. an exaggerated claim for sure.

Well said. I will also say...rather than getting actual information like you want to me TMZ, the way she talked about certain things was NEW. I go back to the scene where she is literally baring her soul on the messed up nature of the industry. Bey as never spoken like that before. Her vulnerability is not tied or determined by explicit info she gives you...its the way she spoke about certain things that really surprised me.

What actual evidence do we have that visuals ever existed in the first place? 
 

Note: a video titled “cliquebait”, to me, is evidence of the opposite. When a fish bites the bait, they aren’t rewarded afterwards with more food. They’re killed. 

When Bey says she's "not worried about perfection" what she means to say is she's not worried about doing things that are not creatively fulfiling for her or worth spending precious time on. 

 

For a while, this was promo. Bey took her power back in the 2010s by no longer focusing on promo because it overwhelmed her and distracted from the creative process. So she focused on a new outlet, which was visuals.

 

Now, I think visuals might be something that is no longer creatively fulfilling. This is partly due to the expectation that she will deliver them and they will be perfect. She wants to free herself from this pressure. 

 

For Bey it is very important to remove the expectation and pressures put upon her (by us and herself). As she said in the film, what she does also requires mental strength. She has to be balance the pressure of being Beyoncé all while keeping her artistic integrity in tact. This is a delicate balance that requires her to withhold certain things at certain times (promo, visuals, interviews, etc).

They live through a parasocial relationship with B and other artists. They don't see her as human so it's impossible to have a discussion with these types.

As in, we are the physical expression of the album — the visuals come to life, if you will. Ergo, the digital visuals are redundant.
