I feel like she’s not going to capitalize on it lol

Lemonade requires a certain mindset for me to sit down and listen in full. That’s actually a good thing for immersion, im just not often in that mood so it’s not something I go back to regularly even though I love it :michael:

!

I love Lemonade. It’s a great album, but it’s not sonically cohesive. Thematically, yes. It’s a very mooody album you have to be hungry enough to digest it on a straight through listen.

Speaking of 600k, AHAP better reach that this weekend :jonnycat:

AHAP outstreaming the entirety of Lemonade i giggled

Bey really must feel quite old and out of touch when looking at the reception of Rennie and what she and her label thought would smash:

They clearly thought BMS, Church Girl and Summer Renaissance were the standouts.

The public went for BMS, Cuff It and AHAP instead.

I kinda feel like AHAP is one of Bey's personal favourite tracks on the album though... this is pure conjecture of course, but it just has that R&B-hip-hop bridge that she seems so comfortable in and really has a lot of fun doing (the whole bridge of APESHIT, for example where on stage she clearly is feeling it). And we know she loves a throwback moment. I imagine she didn't think others would feel the same for it though.

Also since Jay co-wrote it, it imo implies she may have a soft-spot for it too, we know she likes to involve Jay on songs she thinks are really hot (Crazy in Love, Déja Vu, Drunk in Love).

I think they’ve done a great job managing the singles with what they have. The timing has all worked out. They’re shooting for longevity with Cuff It.

Hopefully they play their cards right with AHAP.

At this rate, we may never get ACT II lol

True, I can totally see her mixing it with Bow Down potentially and Partition. They all have a similar vibe going on (dark-ish beats with a clear 90s throwback sound).

Also I hate to say it but her not doing anything but releasing an insane album truly results in crazy longevity. Rennie is pretty much guaranteed to stay afloat streaming wise due to the tour alone, which is another 6 months to go. If at any point she releases the visuals, she could almost aim for another repeak 1 year after its release + another boost incoming with Act 2 at one point :jonny:

hah yes I am glad you are maybe seeing the light about what not releasing visuals can mean for the era...

I mean, there could be behind-the-scenes reasons for it, but I still believe whatever the reason, Beyoncé wouldn't just NOT release ANYTHING whatsoever if it didn't also align to some sort of general vision or gameplay for her brand/era. at the very least I think it's safe to assume she didn't intend BREAK MY SOUL to come with visuals and that in itself is sort a proof-of-concept for a "music first" idea that she might have decided was great to continue with when/if the visuals where delayed.

and I do think Beyoncé is wise about her brand and thus able to take risks others would not. ST was a risk. Formation for free was a risk. No visuals/performances is a risk. But the outcome is accessing the public in different way: immediate hype, cultural commentary, or music-so-good-it-doesn't-need-visuals.

RENAISSANCE very much has a cult following kind of feeling imo. It's something you love honestly without the trappings of marketing. She managed to be one of the BIGGEST most commercial artists in the world, and put out a record that in some ways feels nearly underground in that if you want to listen, you seek it out...it's not really seeking you out or imploring you to listen (aside from radio and playlisting).

I think depending on how the visuals are released, and when, she could even snatch a #1 placement again if the cards are played correctly.

Like, if she also offered a digital version of the album that comes with the videos (like how buying Lemonade gave you the visuals too).

Very well said. At the end, no matter how dry eras might feel for us now, this all further establishes Beyonce as THE popstar of our generation who is fearless. That in itself is extremely powerful and definitely furthers her legacy, which is all she cares about at this point (rightfully)

I'm excited to see if others take this "no visuals/no promo" approach going forward in the way that surprise drops have become unremarkable now as a business move because so many people have done it.

Her confidence is truly remarkable in that she's really the only major popstar who is willing to meaningfully do things that would 100% reduce her success. Like, again, surprise releases may mean no one cares, or not enough people are aware in that moment of your new work, but taking that risk after someone has already shown there is a potential huge payoff isn't quite the same.

It's amazing to me that she can be an "older" artist yet is maybe the only major popstar doing things that are truly maximizing the "new" industry she finds herself in... ie., using digital sales to her benefit with surprise releases (on-demand, direct-to-customer access) and then streaming (again on-demand, but also making an album that you want to listen to in full, not just a handful of 2 minute songs you like...and utilizing the new fact that you don't outright NEED a music video in the same way you did in 2006, etc.). As much as ATRL swears music videos have no impact on success anymore, no one else is approaching their eras with that in mind.

Sorry is one of her literal best, couldve been a long running #1 on R&B radio if she did it right.

Sorry was my number one most played beyoncé song until Renaissance came out, it’s EXCELLENT. You’re still a mess for dragging 4

OT: I hadn't listened Daddy Lessons for a long time. It came on shuffle and yeah, it's exquisite :WAP:

i really hope she make space for renaissance and the gift....

From the Gift i am praying for some mashup like water and my power....

UMMMMM :biblio: baby boy is staying

This arrangement is insane, kinda want her to mix it with get busy or temperature :jonny5:

I would love if she made Diva into more of a house/vogue/clack-clack song for the tour.

I don't think she can or should leave it off, it fits the mood of the era so well and is a queer anthem in itself.

Plus after Homecoming I think people will love to see what she can do with it next.

Y’all are gonna be let down if you think she’s skipping classics like diva and baby boy for a bunch of the gift songs. It’s a stadium tour it’s not just for the beyhive
