From the seeming mess around performers, Adele skipping totally, and  hints about AOTY winner. Next week is definitely gonna be interesting. 

Makes total sense as to why they are stalling with performer announcements. Thus far, we have...nothing. 

Beyoncé is always last min announced is she not? Adele skipping altogether is a shock.

Total conjecture on my part, but I sense the "leaning another way" because of politics could be:

* Finally giving it to Bey: Beyond the fact she literally deserves it, there is a lot riding on this year for their future credibility. If they snub her again, it's only going to lead to the biggest performer of our time giving them the Drake, Weeknd, Sheeran treatment. To the point I can see her hitting that "most awarded ever" milestone this year and not even submitting moving forward. 

 

* A Calculated Random: Love Kendrick and Mary, but neither of their albums made much noise. Yet, they too are under-awarded Black acts and giving either of them would (in Grammy's eyes) see them "do better" on the diversity front.

 

* Bad Bunny: would be historic in terms of breaking a major language glass ceiling etc etc. 

 

Let's be real though, anything other than a Bey win would be a farce that will continue to dent the show's rep.

Sorry but I’m not happy about this one, she performed in Dubai but not this. Seriously? We ain’t getting any televised performances this era, this was our last hope of that.

bey doesn't need the flopmmys to sell her tour  I honestly don't need a performance at that washed up show. Just let her win AOTY so we can be done with it

I actually think Adele is doing damage control by supposedly not attending. In truth, she has no reason to "ignore" the show. If anything, the Grammys have constantly propped her up. 

 

She's in a bit of a weird space after Vegas-gate and an underwhelming era (by her standards). I feel that if she wanted to play ball with the show, they'd throw all the awards at her. Sub-par era or not. Her winning over a Bey again given her most recent circumstance would actually be bad publicity. So, I sense she's just laying low in general.

I agree. Performing for the 1% in Dubai and getting paid a practically imaginary amount of money for it, but not being magnanimous enough to give her actual fans a performance unless it’s on tour - expensive, rigidly scheduled, limited availability - is grimy as hell.

She doesn't need the show, for sure. And I sense if all the tea about an imminent announcement in the coming days is true, she'll be purposefully announcing her ish up and around the show...without actually doing the show. It's kind of gansta in a way. 

 

That said, the fan in me wants/needs a performance. We can go on and on about how bad Grammys are/have done her, but the reality is that it's still top of the food chain as an award show platform. She's not about to skip the Grammys in favor of lesser shows like the VMAs or AMAs. Eroded prestige and all, the Grammys are still the "Grammys". Much in the way the Oscars are still the "Oscars". 

 

There isn't a show bigger than it and since she seems hellbent on pushing her premium (by only appearing at the top shows), she (by way of her own antics) reinforces its importance as a platform for her.

Maybe you're right. But, I just feel like they're above the Grammys. If After Bey wins AOTY and becomes the most awarded, she'll have no reason to ever appear again or care about them and I wouldn't expect her to

I think if it's true none of those people are showing up, the Grammys are seriously ****** and may not be able to right the ship.

I mean why bother submitting to every ******* category if you want to boycott or flex or whatever

If the show is being abandoned by one major artist after the next, it really isn't even a good idea for her to perform. She is better off showing up late and airing a tour commercial.
